  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My G90 isnt my daily driver. And because i drive it infrequently, i discovered today my battery is dead. I’ve looked in the manual and see no discussion of battery. Can anyone tell me how to charge my battery? I have the hood open and see the + mark on the fuse box but I dont know if that’s for a slow charge. I can’t get into the trunk if that’s where I charge the battery. I’ve tried to locate videos but all are for older Genesis models. Can anyone help me understand how to charge my battery? Thank you!

My 2018 G90 had a battery in the rear also.

You can connect charger at either the jump start connectors under the hood or directly to the battery beneath the trunk load floor as per the owners manual.

See page. 8-4: for location of under hood terminals

P. 9-32 and 9-33: Battery Recharging By battery charger: Should your vehicle's battery become discharged ................. you may connect a fully automatic regulated charger to the engine compartment front jumper posts or at the battery in the trunk.

The negative battery cable must be removed first and installed last when the battery is disconnected. Disconnect the battery charger in the following order: 1. Turn off the battery charger main switch. 2. Unhook the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal. 3. Unhook the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal.

Here are some Amazon links for smart chargers, if you don't have one:

Thank you! I followed your instructions. I purchased a battery charger and connected it to the charging posts under the hood. I let it charge overnight. This morning the charger showed all green. But the car is dead. I cannot open the trunk with the button or fob. There is no power for lights. Nothing. Since I live 80 miles from the dealer, my next step? I could try to charge the battery directly in the trunk if I can get the switch to open. I could also buy a new battery and try that. The car is under warranty with under 900 miles. When I bought it the dealer was 5 miles away but Genesis closed that dealer. So I’m trying to troubleshoot before having to tow car 80 miles. Thanks!

I’m hoping to access battery but I cannot get into trunk. Thanks!

Ok. I finally got the trunk open on my 2023 G90. The battery is dead, and my attempts to charge it using posts under hood haven’t worked. I’m ready to try the trunk battery now that I can get into trunk. The 48v battery is bolted under a huge metal plate. How do I charge the battery? Where are the connectors? I’m wanting to put a charger on this battery but want to make sure I am doing it safely and correctly Also, I’m using a Schumacher charger with AGM setting. Thank you

The video linked below shows the 12v battery location beneath the 48v unit but it's hard to understand the narration.

Unfortunately, it looks like it might be best to have the dealer take care of it.

Best of luck.

Since I didn’t know how to access my 2020 G90 trunk when the battery is dead, I looked it up for Theatreman, a bit too late I see. I found these two pages in the manual for the 2023 G90. I’m not sure what Genesis means by “Non-Powered Trunk (if equipped)” on the first page. But the second page talks about a dead battery, so that must be the cure. Someday I should check my own manual.

It means what is says. Like trunks of the past 100+ years. You put in a key or pushed a button and springs lifted the trunk lid. No electric motors to open or close it.
Remember when each door had a button to push to lock it?

Now I feel stupid. I see my confusion was due in part to my speed reading. I missed the part about ”do one of the following”. I assumed “all of the following“ and that the steps were some kind of coded way to get into the trunk during a “non-power” situation like a dead battery. Maybe another reason for my confusion was that I couldn’t imagine an expensive car like the G80 would be less convenient than what I had on my 2020 G90.

I checked my G90 manual and saw I had the same pull cable to open the trunk during a battery failure. I knew just where the pull cord was only after cheating and sighting it from the open trunk lid. Unfortunately the cable was not long enough to latch like it said in the manual. I also heard no click when just pulling the cable hard. I had my wife pull up on the trunk lid while I pulled, but no joy. I will check with the dealer the next time I’m there for service.

All three topics have been merged into one.

I'm assuming it was fixed by now, but generally as long as you can open a door, you can open the pass through and use a stick or whatever to open the trunk with the release on the inside. The battery is in the back and may simply be disconnected or not conducting electricity at one end.

This is assuming you already tried a booster connected to the battery on the front at the + and - connectors under the hood. I usually trickle charge mine from the front if I won't use it for a while but if your battery is screwed that may not work.

Instead of driving too far, you could just get a new battery anywhere and install it, or get any mechanically inclined friend to help, unless you insist on doing it under warranty, if it makes sense to tow your car just for that...
