  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody purchase and use a Memory Saver for the OBD port when changing a battery? I want to be sure and purchase a good one. Your help appreciated. Thanks!

Since I got such overwhelming response, I went ahead and bought this. I can verify it works. Had read some horror stories about some of the cheap ones shorting out ECUs and blowing fuses. This worked like a champ. My factory battery lasted 5 years, and died on my birthday. All good now. Shumacher OBD Memory Saver

I can vouch for the Schumacher OBD Memory Saver. It's foolproof and does the job easily.

It's not the cheapest but its the best.

Well, turns out it was a bigger problem. Car is 5 years old, 60K, had it since May 2018. Alternator is bad. Discovered after purchasing battery. Fortunately extended warranty still applies. Stealership charged me $1154, but warranty covers, only $50 for me. $1154 for an alternator is insane, considering the part is under $400 OEM.

The OEM sounds a little light as a rebuilt is $300 but the $400 may be a rebuilt through the dealer too. At that mileage they may have also replaced the belt, of course, labor. That may bring it to $650 or so.
Glad you had the warranty.

Do have a 3.8 or a 5.0? It looks like a pain in the butt to replace alt on a 5.0. Not sure about the 3.8? The alternator looks to be huge on these cars. Thank goodness for extended warranties.

That is crazy pricing. A new after market alternator for most cars are usually under $200. OEM alternators are over rated and over priced. I’ve had an OEM rebuilt with new brushes, voltage regulator and bearings before for $89 as well as just purchase a new after market alternator online. Last one purchased was for a Honda and was like $79 and that was over a year ago for my sons car and it’s still working fine.

Well, this turned out even odder. I was called later that afternoon, and said turns out wasn't the alternator. One of the fuses on the positive battery terminal blew, and once replaced, returned charging to normal. They billed me 0. Had the car back for a couple weeks, no issues. I've never checked a fuse on a battery terminal before, (never had one I guess) so I didn't think of that.
