  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Battery discharge warning...

I am not going to spend a lot of time trying to find more recent stats, but I quickly found this on the internet:

"Indeed, a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that battery explosions in 1993 alone injured 2,280 people severely enough to have required hospital treatment."

And, I was seriously thinking of getting a Tesla.

I think those are a different kind of battery (not lead acid).
In that case, I'll trash the Gen. & get a Tesla - there's a "supercharger" station nearby. No more gas & oil.

Back to the OP's question. My wife was driving the car today and got the message for the first time. I told her to reboot the car (turn it off then back on again) which she did and didn't have any further messages. Has anybody got an answer to what is causing the message to pop up? It is disconcerting to say the least to be driving and the message pops up to start the car. Just left the dealer and the service tech said it might be a bad sensor that is mounted on the negative battery terminal. Will be making an appointment to have them take a look at it.

I'm resurrecting an old thread here. I was driving home this afternoon and kept getting this "Battery Discharge Warning" every few minutes or so during the drive. The engine was obviously running since I was driving down the freeway. The previous posts suggest that this is a temporary issue and turning off the car will cause the message to go away. Has anyone come across a reason for this message happening while driving and/or a fix?

I got the message this morning. My car was in ACC mode though, so maybe its a generic warning in that mode?

Car goes in tomorrow for a TPMS warning, but ill see if that Battery Discharge warning pops up again when the car is driving or at least started.

If the engine is not running the battery warning pops up every so often.

As for the TPMS, I assume you got a message aside from low pressure.

Yeah, I did not get the warning again - so probably just a preventative warning.

The message just said to check the sensor. I had an alignment done and a tire re balancing done yesterday, it still shows up. Maybe the tires/rims I bought dont have the sensors or something?

It goes back in the shop (again) today because of a braking vibration. Hopefully that's nothing too expensive.

Any fix out there for when this happens while the engine is running?

Lawyers calculate the potential cost of one lawsuit versus the cost of including the warning in the owner's manual (which pretty much has a zero cost), so it ends up in the owner's manual. That was my only point.
Wow! That was right around the year that I had a battery explode on me. Not a fun experience!

Just for your info
Replacement cost on that battery retails for $282 Not Cheap...internet price $217 Hyundai part # 371103M00
A substantial savings... but I'd guess that would go away when shipping was added in. As batteries aren't exactly light!

Pep Boys has the 25% off coupon again, making their battery (4 year warranty) $150.

Hopefully it is just your standard everyday computer glitch. Unfortunately these things are becoming more common place with computers running almost everything in our cars now. Just last week my passenger side lane change alert was constantly on even though no car was there or even close by. Rather annoying as each time I changed lanes and used the flasher it would beep at me. Stayed like that until the car was shut down and restarted.

I dont have a Genesis but have the Sonata Limited model. Mine done the exact same thing but there was a fault in the system and it ended up sending a power surge thru the system and fried my main Computer. The local dealer couldnt find it and took engineers from Hyundai to trace it back. The blind spot detection failed and this was the outcome. It has been turned off by Hyunfai on my cat now.

I have a 2013 Genesis R Spec; single owner (~110k mi), and I just received this ' Battery Discharge Warning' (BDW) indicator. At first the traditional battery light illuminated on the dashboard. Then shortly afterwards, I started receiving the 'Battery Discharge Warning'. I called the onboard system (BlueLink) to have them diagnose the problem. During the call, the car starting shutting down systems (including my call with BlueLink) and all my warning lights started coming on. The car eventually cut off and I was stranded on the side of the road. I ordered a new battery and installed it. However, the BDW indicator is still coming on even after installing the new battery. I'm assuming it might be the alternator. Checking that tomorrow.

Driving home today I kept getting the battery discharge warning please use the system with engine running.this would randomly pop up on the center console lcd screen while I was driving. Anyone else had this happen?
This happen to me now ? What should I do

Just had the same thing happen and bought a new battery. Same warning comes up with the new battery??

I would expect a discharge warning to be related to the charging system, not the battery. Your alternator may be failing. There's no need to guess, a quick check with a voltmeter would confirm or rule out a charging system problem. A few further checks would verify if that problem is the alternator itself or not.

You can also swing by AutoZone, O'Reilly's or your local dealership. They can test the battery and charging system.
