  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took delivery of my GV70 two weeks ago and my battery has died twice. Has any one had a similar problem? When I saw the car in the showroom, the tailgate wouldn't open for me to inspect it and the salesperson said it was because the battery was dead from sitting in the showroom. I took delivery of the car and was assured the battery was well charged. The car sat in my driveway for a few days and it died. I had to call Genesis Roadside Assistance for a charge on a Saturday to get it back to the dealership. They installed a new battery at my insistence, only to have that one die exactly two weeks later. They are now going to run diagnostics after the Labor Day weekend. Asked me where I store the key. Evidently if it is too close to the car the computer never shuts off and can drain the battery. Any one have a similar problem?? Hope I didn't buy a lemon.

Their explication is a bunch of balderdash b

I doubt it’s a lemon man. There’s tons of things that can have a parasitic draw. Easy to find with a diag tool. It could be the keys, my old C6 corvette worked similarly, the alarm was always searching for the fob. I wouldn’t stress a drain battery too much those are usually easy fixes.

Thank you! There is hope!

As others said something is draining it or there is always the possibility the battery itself is defective.

I'm on my 2nd battery. See what happens tomorrow, thanks

Get your battery tested first- free at any auto store and takes just a second to do. If it's bad swap it with an Optima and forget about it. If it's not the battery take it back to the dealer to hunt the drain down.

I had a bizarre situation with my Kia Stinger where the brake light would come on after driving it and stay on draining the battery unless I disconnected it. It took them awhile to hunt down a loose wire at the fuse panel in the engine bay. Good luck.

Mine hasn’t had any battery dying issues, and I’ve been parking it without driving for a week at a time (still driving the Miata a lot until the colder weather gets here).

Two days after I took my 2022 G70 home I was in my garage fiddling with all the electronics in an attempt to customize the set up. I had the ignition on without the engine for no more than 10 minutes. A message I didn't pay attention to because it made no sense to me given the circumstances said the battery was in danger of discharge and recommended starting the car. Because I didn't heed the seemingly nonsensical warning the car went completely dead with multiple lights displayed. Genesis roadside had to come and tow my G70 from my garage. The dealer claimed the battery was drained.

After I got the car back from the servicing dealer I again spent less than 10 minutes trying set up the Homelink garage door opener and customize the electronics. Once again, a message popped up on the dash that the battery was in danger of discharging. I immediately started the car in fear of a repeat disabling. I also put a battery tender on it but it showed it was charged and okay.

Incidentally, my son had a 2021 G70 as a loaner a couple weeks previously and said he received the same battery drain message.

I am both baffled and very concerned that there is an underlying electrical issue with this vehicle. It appears others on this forum may have had similar experiences. I would be very grateful for any insight or understanding as to what may be occurring here.

The 3.5 on the dealer floor I wanted to test drive had a dead battery which is concerning

Today's cars have a lot electronics, sensors, etc (remember we have a chip shortage, cars used several computer chips) and with the key on you are putting a drain on the battery. You might even have the radio on in the background. Most cars after several minutes will either tell you to start your car or will automatically shut the car off which I'm surprised the GV70 didn't do this. Also completely draining a battery is not good for the battery. Like you did connecting a trickle charger while playing with settings is a good idea.

Not unusual new cars sit a lot while in shipping and driven very short distances and even when installed in the car during manufacturing may not be fully charged. Then you have people climbing in and out of them moving the power seats, etc.

My car is still with the service department after a week. The service manager stated that after replacing my battery with a brand new one out of another new vehicle, it drops down to 30% overnight! They can't figure it out and will have to call Tech Support for information. He did admit that he is seeing more and more battery issues with this model. He said they delivered 2 last week and when the customers showed up to accept delivery the batteries were dead! Just passing the info along.......

Thank you ultra63 for corroborating my experience.

Did you get this battery drain resolved. I have the exact problem...they are ordering a new battery.

Hey Jimmymoc! sorry you are having a similar problem! But I'm not alone! My new factory fresh battery is backordered. A source at the dealership not willing to be identified admitted this is a common problem, and no other battery will fit the GV70. It is so new that Interstate and other battery manufacturers have not even tooled up to produce a replacement battery. We are stuck until they come from Korea. Its not promising with the container and supply chain BS we are all hearing about. My car is starting and I am using it every day, but I am not confident that it may not start again if I don't use it any length of time. They switched out a battery from another vehicle for now. My source says they are seeing more and more of these battery problems with the GV70. Hoping its just a battery issue..........PS- where do you live? I am in Long Island, NY

Hey Jimmymoc! Sorry you are having a similar problem, but I'm glad I'm not alone! I am now two weeks out tomorrow with my current battery from another vehicle. I am using the car everyday, and so far it has been starting up every time I use it. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning. A source who will remain nameless from my dealership spoke off the record and said they are seeing more and more of these battery issues with the GV70. The problem is that no other battery will fit into the battery compartment of the GV70. It is so new that Interstate and other battery manufacturers do not even have it in their production schedules yet. So you can't even get a third party battery. My dealer is waiting for brand new factory fresh batteries from South Korea, but with all this BS about container ships and supply chain issues, God knows how long it will be before they arrive. The other issue is demand..... if the original factory batteries are a common problem, then the demand for whatever supply there is will be high. My dealer advises me that they will install a brand new factory fresh battery in my GV70 as soon as they come in. Where are you located? I am in Long Island, NY. Good luck......

Spoke to dealer today. They said new battery was shipped and should be in a couple of days. We will see. I am in Arkansas...I would think you would have better luck in NY. I'll keep you posted.
