  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2009 sedan 4.6 with 58K on the odometer. Battery light comes on intermittently and my steering is notchy, so much so it feels like it quits and operates with steering input. Pretty scary. I purchased the car used with 52 K on the odo 18 months ago. Has anyone else had these issues?
########The above was posted early 6/24/2016. At 6:30 pm the power steering quit, wipers quit completely, all lights on dash illuminated and the car died. It only clicks when trying to start. I will put in a new battery tomorrow and go from there. This all started during one of those famous northwest storms. Timing is everything.
How much is a battery at the dealership?

No.
Nothing like that. Battery light "Might" indicate alternator problems. Steering problems might indicate a power steering, or a steering rack problem.
Best to have an expert look at it.....There are many Hyundai dealers that aren't "experts" at working on the Genesis. The problem is finding one who is.
If you give your location, somebody here might steer you in the direction of an "expert" dealer.

The 2009 4.6 has a hybrid electronic/hydraulic power steering system (V6 had pure hydraulic). A loss of electrical power might very well be affecting the power steering.

I would double check your battery condition, and battery wires. If they are OK, then I would take it a dealer to check the alternator/generator (not sure which it uses) or anything else that could be causing the problem.

I will start with battery and charging system check. Thank you.
Purchased at Tonkin Hyundai, Gresham, Oregon. I have used them on a couple occasions but not totally confident.

Agree completely. Thanks.

I replaced the battery myself. Had to go to supplier as dealer did not have one in stock.
#####Note: if you are going to change your own battery remember to attach battery charger to positive and negative cables first so you don't lose any stored info, pre-sets etc. during change out.
Took car to dealer to check charging system.

was this ever resolved?
Same question. I experienced similar symptoms. Battery light came on one night then after a few miles driving the very next morning, car started loosing power while running. Things like power steering would go out and eventually when it wouldn’t turn over anymore, the infotainment and right headlight were wiggin out. I replaced the alternator and battery and the battery light remains on. Car has been running fine for 2 days but last night I can feel something is still wrong. It feels like it cuts power a bit on startup sometimes. Anyone have a fix? I really don’t want to take it to a dealer.

Alternator.
