  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2013 Genesis 3.8 Base Model 17" Rims.

My Genesis came with 3 of the what I assume are the stock dunlops and one no name tire. Assuming it was used as a flat replacement.

I live in Southern California so 95% of the time it's hot and dry with occasional brief downpours of rain at certain times of year. Snow and ice is never a concern.

My priorities for the tires would be:

1. Comfortable Ride (our freeways here SUCK)
2. Dry Weather Traction
3. Fuel Economy
4. Road Noise (since the genesis is already such a quiet car)

The three I'm looking at are:

Pirelli Cinturato P7
Michelin Defender
Continental Control Contact Tour AS

I ran Primacy MXV4s on my previous daily driver before I traded it in for the Genesis. Smooth tires and pretty quiet, but they aren't very grippy. My V6 Solara was able to spin them pretty easily.

I have those Pirellis Cinturato P7s sitting in my entry way at home and will be putting them on my R-Spec tomorrow. Sidewall markings aren't pretty, but we'll see how they do on the road.

Just noticed that Costco has $70 off a set of 4 Michelin tires. They provide free tire rotations every 7500 miles, free nitrogen, and road hazard insurance is included. Offer is good from 10/2/2014 - 10/26/2014. Costco membership is required.

With the Michelin tires what does the MXM4 or MXV4 denote or mean?

Model name...

"Model name..." Is that an answer or a question? MXM4 because it sounds cool?

That's a good deal. Americas Tire (or discount tire depending on where you're at) says Michelin is offering a $70 gift card on certain model tires. I wonder if that's why Costco is discounting as well. I wonder if we can double up?

Looks like Michelin has a new tire called the Premier A/S that they recommend:
You can compare the various Michelin Tires here:

The Premier A/S looks nice! Only rated to 130mph but I doubt I'll go that fast in my Genesis at any point anyway lol

I think Michelin offers the same deal from time-to-time with multiple vendors. I don't think you can double up. Discount Tire is pretty good also, but I prefer Costco, because I do lose air more slowly with the nitrogen (despite that there is some hype to this subject). Costco Tire has excellent customer service, as does Discount/Americas Tire.

I believe that the Premier A/S and the Primacy both come in H and V speed ratings. They may suggest H if that is the OEM speed rating, but you can get V also.

I've never bought tires at Costco cause it always seems like a madhouse and I have a limited temper for other humans at that place. lol

Discount/Americas tire has always treated me well. I used to have a friend who managed one and would give me tires at cost. One time I got a set of Good Year assurance triple treads on my crown vic out the door for under $200.

I have used both stores and both are good. Before I tried Costco, I assumed Costco was like Sam's or Walmart, but they are completely different. They treat their tire customer extremely well and have well-paid and highly qualified tire techs. They know that their customers have paid for a Costco membership, and that a lot of business is on the line, not just for tires.

Good to know!

I have the new A/S Premiers and love them. They were a big improvement over the Hankooks that I tried for a couple of days. Remember that Michelin has a satisfaction guarantee to exchange if not satisfied.

I recently had a set of the Pirelli P7's on my Wife's Sonata Limited and they were a drastic improvement over the stock Khumo's. The P7's are much more quite during freeway driving and do not have the annoying drone during long drives that was found on the stock Exsta's, plus the handling limits have improved with tons of feed back at the limit letting you know exactly when they break loose. My Genesis will be getting a set of P7's as soon as the Dunlop's that came with it wear out. I am very impressed with that tire.

I have Uniroyal All Season Tiger Paws on my 4.6 (W rated 18's), quiet ride, And very sticky... Not very good in wet conditions (especially at accelerating from a dead stop) . May not be carried everywhere but mechanics recommend them. They do not like pot holes though (but maybe thats the car and not the tires hehehehehe)
