  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I live in the NYC area and want to buy a used (2019-2021) g70 3.3T AWD. I have looked at platform websites like carmax and carvana. While I like their warranty programs, the car prices themselves are quite expensive. And since I am not a car expert, I am not confident buying from regular used car dealerships. I want to buy a car that was maintained well so I can drive for a long time without much stress. Where can I find such places? Thx

I’ve had good luck with Autotrader. Both dealers and individuals sell there. There’s usually Carfax’s posted with them and that’s always a good starting point.

You are better off buying from a traditional brick and mortar dealership. Most of them tend to keep the cream-of-the-crop from their trade-ins to sell on their pre-owned lot. Questionable ones wouldn't look good on their lot and could become potential deadaches they might have to deal with, so they tend to auction those off.

Independent used car sellers tends to be less discriminatory and are more willing to take a risk to make a buck.

Same goes for a buyer looking to save money buying used. Along with potential money savings comes with inherent risks you cannot completely eliminate. If you don't know how to "read" or inspect a car, I would suggest you think twice. Or find somebody able to do it competently. Carfax and AutoCheck report can help, but again, nothing is guaranteed.

The newer the car is, the less time it spent in the wild, the more likely it is to be closer to the safety of a brand spanking new car... not surprisingly, so would be the price. Nothing wrong with buying used, and it can net some real bargains. You just have to weigh the potential benefits against the risks... for each candidate car that comes across your radar.

Unfortunately, there is no such place. People trying to sell you something are not just going to tell you about every problem regardless of whether they are aware of not. It is up to you to do your due diligence in properly inspecting the car to make sure it is problem free. The only thing you can count on to get yourself that reliable car is yourself.

Your best bet is to bring along a mechanic you trust or take the car to the mechanic to have it inspected. Then, buy a warranty that you are satisfied with from a reputable source that won't make you jump through hoops for service, or stick to the manufacturer's warranty if you are happy with that, to ensure that you are covered in case you do run into issues later.

I purchased my G70 through RubyCar; they are an Avis company and sell program vehicles. You don't test drive the vehicle, but they will take it back, no questions asked, within 7 days of pickup. Here is a link to their inventory of G70s. It looks like they have 13 for sale currently.

For comparison, I paid $30,600 for a 2019 G70 3.3t Prestige with 19,200 miles on it. Pretty competitive. I've been extremely happy with the car so far, and it's still under warranty through February of next year.

Good luck!

I live in Arizona and just got my 23 - G70 sport delivered last week from Fort Myers FL
it had 189 miles on it when I purchased it. The car stickered at $55,815.00 and I paid $43,000.00
almost 13K off the window sticker. It was the only one left in the US with color and options I wanted.
Could have done without those ridiculous mud guards at $140.00, what a waste.
it is Savile Silver with Red interior, 3.3T, sport advanced and sport prestige packages, plus crap like first aid kit, wheel locks, trunk liner, bumper applique. All useless to me, I could have bought a trunk liner for 1/2 their price.
Paid $1,250.00 to ship it to AZ, took 4 days, but it is here. Yesterday I had the complete front end done in EXPEL clear bra, 10 mils thick, all the way to the front doors, added 20% Expel XLR ceramic window tint all the way around, including an eye brow visor. I hate the black wheels, I'm thinking of taking them to a shop in Phoenix who will sand blast the factory paint off and Powder Coat any color for $200.00 a wheel. Thinking body color because chrome wouldn't look good on Silver. Or maybe a set of Vossen Wheels, who knows.

Go to www.fortmyersgenesis.com - they had 8 others with almost "o" mileage. Plus I got a CPO Warranty, which adds another year to the Bumper to Bumper, 6 years and 75,000 miles.
