  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Title says it all. After getting the "new" engine installed the whole engine bay is a filthy mess and I'd like to clean it.
Any tip and tricks to getting it done easily?

My old Chevy was done at car wash back in the day and just used the Gunk foam and low pressure spot free water. Still a decent method?

I’ve used my own high pressure washer with a fan nozzle like at the car washes at my house along with a citrus based spray on cleaner. I do not blast the sprayer too close to the engine, stay off the alternator, fuse boxes and plug connectors. Afterwards I use my cordless blower to get rid of puddled water pooled in areas. I then start the car and let the heat finish drying things up. Thus far things have been ok.

Simple Green is a good neutral cleaner. Spray on cool engine let it soak a bit, brush areas that are not cooperative and lightly hose everything off. Start and let dry.

If I do this I'd probably buy some foam cleaner, go to car wash, foam and light spray if all down and the highway is right next to car wash so I'd just hop on there and let that 75mph wind blow things out. :)

p.s. Reason for the main question is I'm seriously thinking of trading this thing in before more stuff falls apart on me. Plus it needs new tires already and I rather not invest $800 in that at this point.

My son got a 2023 Kia Forte GT-Line and that thing is pretty amazing for the price we paid. Has so many nice safety/comfort/convenience features on it.

Avoid the high pressure if you can - or at least do it from a far enough distance that it only has a "rinsing" effect, and not a power-wash. High pressure water can and does penetrate seals and gaskets which will lead to problems.

Remember that water jets are used to cut through blocks of steel in manufacturing. Yes - different application altogether - but something to keep in the back of your mind when handling pressurized water at one of these places.

For extra fun - use your thumb and pointer finger to "pinch" the water close to the nozzle on the sprayer. See how that feels - and then think if a thin piece of rubber or laminated paper can sustain what you just experienced. :)

Yeah I'm not using the full blaster mode. When you use the "spot free" water option, the sprays pressure is cut way down, it's like a very light mist.

I have seen engines / engine bays that were steam cleaned, and those looked really good. I've also seen the claim that steam cleaning is less likely to cause damage or electrical problems. That said, I've yet to try it myself.

Mind telling us about the adventure? What happened to the original? What'd you replace it with (mileage)? How hard to find? Cost?

You're getting rid of one and I'm on the verge of upgrading to a sport.
