Just happened to mine G70 today. May 2021This has been resolved. No G70’s affected.
Just saw the flaking today. 2021 3.3t Sport, 1250 miles 6 weeks old.Mine actually "flaked" off in spots on the trim. Very obviously an issue with the coating adhering to the underlying chrome. Pretty much all sport models is my assumption at some point in time. Replacement trim has the same issues.
It is heavier in "flaking" where the door is handled (thank you dealership while working on my brakes over a month).
Damn, glad it’s fixed but pretty sure others here had the warranty work paid by Genesis. Some have had issues so maybe the dealer has a lot to do with how the work is submitted? I have a 2020 with 7000 miles and am still OK for the moment, but it’s probably just a matter of time. I think just normal water over time can start the spotting process for however the trim is finished is crap.Just had all of the black chrome window trim replaced on both sides. Mine is a 2020 Sport with 11,000 miles. The dealership said that Genesis corporate is refusing to pay for this repair, so they absorbed the cost. Seems terribly unfair to the dealerships as this is a manufacturing defect for which they had no responsibility. I will put a coat of graphine ceramic over the trim pieces. The dealership said that should prevent any future problems.
Now my second piece of chrome is peeling. At 40,000 km, 2 year old. The front driver piece by the turn signal is flaking off. Dealership is replacing it, but the PPF and Ceramic Coating isn’t covered. So that’s a bummer
On my 2018 G80 Sport, GMA required a certain test of the fading, an attempt to polish it I think. When that failed, they approved replacement.Dealer looked at my flaking dark chrome and said they'd polish it but Genesis refused to pay for replacement. 2021, 2 months old, 1600 miles. Wow......
Thank you for the information. I'll talk with the dealer again. On my 2018 G80 Sport, GMA required a certain test of the fading, an attempt to polish it I think. When that failed, they approved replacement.
Could be, but if Genesis is selective when they do or do not warranty this issue, discriminatory warranty practices opens up class action suits. There have been enough warranty issues covered, hard to figure how Genesis could do a 180 and no longer cover this? Dealers have a lot of influence here is my guess in how it’s written up.My car is at the dealer, and they're looking at this issue. So in an update phone call, they said that there's a procedure for all of this that includes taking pictures and getting verification from Genesis corporate. Maybe corporate is taking tight control on this warranty issue since it may be costing them a lot of money.
There have been problems with the dark trim since 2017. I am surprised that they are still using this chrome trim on the 2021 models. Unfortunately, new owners are not aware of this issue. I bought my Genesis sport out of warranty and the dark chrome looked not so great anymore, so I polished it. It is a bit lighter and looks more like matte chrome.Just saw the flaking today. 2021 3.3t Sport, 1250 miles 6 weeks old.
FYI, they said the same thing to me when my car was two months old. The dealer attempted to polish it, but all that did was make it shiny. I didn't pay for shiny chrome, which was very obvious when parked next to another G70 that was new on their lot. The next day the dealer had the authorization to replace all window trim pieces. Unfortunately, the same thing is happening again, at 14 months of ownership. On a car with 5500 miles, that only hand washed, and garaged kept. I'll be heading to the dealer my next month some time for them to look at it again. It is the only thing I dislike about the car...Dealer looked at my flaking dark chrome and said they'd polish it but Genesis refused to pay for replacement. 2021, 2 months old, 1600 miles. Wow......
Agree, not acceptable. They should have fixed the dark chrome issue a long time ago or otherwise stop selling cars with the dark chrome. Specifically, at least on my car, it's only the dark chrome trim around the windows. Door handles, mirrors, and front bumper grill all look perfect.Agree, not acceptable. Same on my car, only the dark chrome around the windows was not holding up well.Specifically, at least on my car, it's only the dark chrome trim around the windows. Door handles, mirrors, and front bumper grill all look perfect.
Decided just to live with it. If replacement window trim exhibits the same defect after sometime, it's not worth the hassle. I'll polish it myself and move on. First world problem for sure!Same on my car, only the dark chrome around the windows was not holding up well.
