on black at least. i will try to take some pics (probably hard to see but i'll try) of the area on my right rear door that was touched up by on of those "touch up spray" artists that go to dealer lots to touch up minor scratches etc.
I know from experience now that on black unless it's in an area you will not be eye level to, do not have this done. either go old fashioned touch up paint brush or have it professionally repaired as i now have to do.
the dealer tried to have my car repaired quickly (as the debacle with the first genesis i picked up was fresh in their mind) but it backfired.
the guy:
1. didn't fill in the scratch all the way first so it's black but still there
2. didn't recognize that it was a ding-scratch so it shouldn't have even been attempted, needed filler in the deep scratch first
3. didn't cut a clean line on the inside front lip of the rear door so there's a paint line visible and dirt in the actual paint
4. didn't wet sand the clear properly so in the light (certain times of day) you can see the "alaska" shaped foggy line where he sprayed over it (and that area is huge like the size of my hand, fingers opened yet the scratch is maybe as long as a pinky nail is wide?).
i found this all out by stopping at a reputable body shop near the dealer and showed them the area and asked them what they would do to repair this.
their method would be to
1. repair the ding/scratch
2. remove the exterior handle, door window molding and lower rocker molding
3. respray then clear the door.
said it should match easy do to the black being pretty basic and newer, but they also said that the "patch" repair is acceptable on some areas on some cars but not on almost any area of a black car. so that sucked lol..
went back to the dealer and voiced my concerns. they agreed it looked horrible and should've never been let go like that (wasn't their fault, i took it becasue i was going to florida and thought wth for now) they immediately agreed to have a genesis loaner for me and set me up with their own body shop for the 6th of june to have it repaired properly.
the body shop that looked at my car said they would be in the area of $450-$500 for the repair and that if Lester Glenn did do the repair their body shop does good work (that was very good to hear obviously).
i'll keep updating as things unfold (hopefully good but i am very particular so i hope it's good lol). i even tried to drive the genesis to the body shop when it has to go in but I got the "nah, come here we'll give you the loaner and take care of everything". is it me or don't you want to be there when the car gets there so you can talk to the boss and let him/her see you will be a pita if there's new scratches, dings, staining or overspray on the windows etc.?? i know i have some type of OCD but i can't be the only one thinking this way can i?
