  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

One of the Orlando Mercedes dealers had an ad, asking you to come out to their dealership on the 27th of May, to view the 2010 Mercedes E-Class. Sneek preview. OK, all well and fine, as I understand that Mercedes made a few changes to the E-Class. (Different body looks, as far as I can see).

What I had to laugh at was when they say, "Buy one now, and get a $500.00 discount. (Yes, you read that correct, Five Hundred Dollar discount).

I feel like going there and telling them that for $500.00, they can keep their car.

Sheeeeeesh. That is indeed laughable. In my area, up until a couple months ago, the Hyundai dealers were still trying to tack on 3-4K over sticker on the Genesis. My initial offer on a Genesis here was countered by my dealers offer to me of similar "great deal" of about $500 off of sticker. I guess, like me, you have been doing this for quite a while. I am pretty sure that that a $500 discount of the new E series is not going to create a torrent of buyers for MB. I just don't think some manufacturers get it. The bottom line is that an offer like that is just insulting to one's intelligence.

This may be a marketing question (no I don't work in marketing)

Which is a better deal to you.

Product A priced at 40K selling to you at 40k

Product B priced at 60k selling to you at a DISCOUNT for 53K

I admit I could care less about the price of the product nor the discount from that price (the price is only what the seller thinks the market will bear)

I just want to pay a price I feel is fair compared to other products offered on the market of similar design.

The MB (now last gen) didn't feel any nicer than the Gen. So my perception was that both products should be of equal value. The sellers had differing ideas.

If my perception of either product resulted in my belief that the MB was a 50% better product than the Gen, I would likely have paid MB not Hyundai.

MB discount , I assume, is based on their view of their products value. I don't happen to agree with it, but if they find 20-30k people that do, they will do fine (as they have for many years)....

What is interesting, to me,

When I purchased my Gen I was very very happy with the price, 39.5K for a 4.6 with Tech, Since purchase I have seen others report sales on same product at 38k.

So I now believe I overpaid for the car. (Still very happy with the car). If I never read these boards I would be ignorant of the lower price sales and still feel I got the best price possible.

I too, also have noticed at the dealer that the price for the Genesis 4.6 was like around $1,500 less than what I paid and this car also had 20" wheels and the "emblem" kit front and rear.

Oh well, still have a great car and paid under $40,000
