  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay so I purchased the V5 map update from MapnSoft, and went to install it - well figures the installation didn't work properly and not only that I lost my device ID for my navigation, head unit! I had it on my phone but accidentally deleted it.

Now my navigation is completely ruined at this point (music works fine, etc) just the navigation is not functional at all.
I bring it to the dealer and see if they can fix it and they said there is nothing that can be done at this point but to order a new head unit. Problem is, they are saying this is not under warranty since I caused the issue and that I was suppose to make sure to keep the device ID.

Now they want me to pay $3,100 USD for a new head unit to fix this.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? They said the device ID can't be found anywhere else and nothing else can be done.

What can I do about this? Mapnsoft saved their butt since it says on the cd (make sure to write down your device id)
Wouldn't the device id and such be on the actual unit as well? (on a sticker or something) when they take it apart?

Now when I attempt to get the device id and such all that is emptied in the settings.

I'm not sure what to do at this point...
The car is only 16 months old :(

PS: I have the premium package

The ID may be in the original paperwork that the dealer received showing the build info of the car. Also, have they run the vin to find it? I know that everything about my Mercedes can be found through the VIN since its how recalls are made.

They claimed they did everything and can't do anything to fix it or find the device ID of my system. I don't know what to do at this point. There has to be the device ID stored somewhere else like on a sticker on the unit or something in case something like this electrical would occur otherwise that would be crazy.

Perhaps the manufacturer of the head unit can help if given the VIN and build date. I would exhaust all avenues before spending 3100.00. Also, your head unit is not really broken, it just needs reprograming so, if all else fails, is the dealer discounting the new unit since you will be turning in a good one?

Do you mean Mapnsoft? I've contacted them on the phone yesterday and they said there's nothing they can do and to go to the dealership. :(

I've e-mailed them just now and asked a few more questions.

I definitely do not plan on spending 3,100 dollars on that, I would rather sell the car in that case.
Also that is the quote that they gave me was $3100

I think you have the 14 speaker Lexicon manufactured by Harmon. If so contact Harmon.

I just e-mailed Harman, hopefully they can provide some assistance in this. There just has to be some other information located for each vehicle's device ID besides the computer.

It sounds like your dealer doesn't care much about having you as a customer for life. I know all dealers are different, and many are completely indifferent to circumstances where they can blame their customer. Still, I cannot imagine my dealer behaving this way.

To be honest, the stock nav system is not worth shedding tears over. I would buy a good aftermarket system if all else fails.

I am paying $700 dollars a month on this vehicle, I would like to have ALL the features that I'm paying for. I never had an issue with the navigation system when using it.

Emailed Hyundai Consumer Affairs as well. I hope to hear something back tomorrow.

Take your phone to your cell phone supplier and see if they can recover the deleted data.

I'm a firmware engineer working for a known computer company and I can tell you that unless you did something really stupid during the software update like, interrupting the update process by powering on/off the engine or ejecting the CD then, the issue you ran into was caused by a faulty software and it should be covered under warranty.

If Hyundai Consumer Affairs doesn't help you solve this problem, call a lawyer.

Take it to another dealer and tell them it quit working.

Update: Hyundai Motor Consumer Affairs e-mailed me back and I gave them the information they needed (VIN number, name, dealer, mileage, etc) and they will be looking into giving me my device ID that i need.

Even MapnSoft emailed me back saying if a new head unit is needed that it should be covered under warranty. I'm thinking my dealer was trying to low ball me as they didn't care or anything and had no sympathy of the situation and just said nothing can be done.

Is the $700 for a lease or are you buying the vehicle?
