  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I tried one but it wouldn't fit properly and put it on my wife's Prius instead. I got a Yakima King Joe bike rack that was supposed to fit on the Genesis but I couldn't get it to work. I took it to the bike shop where I bought the bike, but they couldn't get it to work either. the Clips that were supposed to be put into the crack between the trunk lid and the body were too thick to slid in. Evidently the fit of the trunk lid on the Genny is too tight and there is not room for it. I called the factory and they said it should fit but it won't.

A 1.25" receiver hitch with a bike carrier is the best solution I have found. It secures the bikes and poses no damage to the paint.

That sounds like a good idea (I thought about it too :) )
How hard is it to install hitch? Do I need to look for professional shop for installation?

Etrailer.com I think u can find what u need here!

I also bought my bike rack from them.....really like this bike rack.

Should tell u I don't have a hitch on my Genesis but have considered doing it!
Use the hitch on my pick up truck when we need to carry bikes.

Have fun

The hitch is about $150 and I got it from etrailer.com I think along with a light wiring kit. The light kit I installed myself and it took about an hour. I had the hitch done at the local trailer parts center. It is a difficult job if you do not have the tools for it as it involves dropping the exhaust and drilling 4 holes in the subframe rails with an extended length drill bit. Then the bolts have to be fished inside the rails and through the newly drilled holes. The finished product looks ok and is very solid. They charged me $70 for installation but I had to help the installer as it takes at least 4 hands to get the hitch in and secured.

Has anyone used a roof mounted rack for a Genesis Sedan? i.e. Thule, Do the pads connecting the foot pack to the roof which fit in the top of the door damage any parts of the car?

hey there ... do you mind posting a photo with the bike rack installed and the bikes on ... I am interested what the clearance is like

Disclaimer:

Found it odd that within the Owner's manual that towing is not recommended... and found on another site aftermarket instructions for a hitch install.

Here's a PDF document on the install process... far from a simple install.

I have a Genesis sedan. I use a Saris Bones 3 rack. I'll post some pictures to show you how I have it. It is hard to get the clamps in under the trunk. You have to get the bike rack on the trunk, pop the trunk slightly, then hook the clamps, and close gently. Easier with 2 people, but works.

I use the Saris Bones 2 rack carrier that I used on my 2013 Sonata. It's a universal rack and I can say from experience it does work well on the Genesis.

Uhaul mounted a trailer hitch to my 2011... about 300 or so out the door.

Works well....

Naw, I don't use one. My Harley is too big to fit on one. :)

Is it possible to use the tow hook opening located on the rear bumper (driver's side) to install a bike rack vs drilling holes in the car?

No........I have no problem putting my bike in the trunk, with both wheels off. The wheels can then be placed on top of the bike.

I realize this post is 8 years old. I'm curious if anybody else has experience with this Saris Bones 3 trunk rack or a roof rack? The Bones 3 is available on Walmart's website for $165, which seems reasonable. I saw another post saying Yakima makes a roof rack, but I didn't see it on their website.

In a nutshell, I have a 2014 R-Spec Sedan and am looking to carry 3 mountain bikes + a kids bike. Ironically the kids bike would probably need to be on a rack because it doesn't have quick release wheels, while the mountain bikes do.

I don't love the idea of putting a tow hitch on the car and getting a hitch-based rack, so I'm probably looking at roof or trunk solutions.

Any suggestions other than buying a truck/suv? ha ha

I use a Yakima rooftop and a hitch mounted bike racks. Sometimes at the same time, or separately. Roof is a bit of a pain to lift a bike up and on (have 2 standup carries, and 1 fork mount). I prefer the hitch mount - easy to load (but only holds 2 - at least this model), quieter on the highway (with and without bikes), and easy to take on and off. Only downsides - more difficult when parallel parking and can be a tripping hazard when in the down position and with no bikes.

The last 2 photos are from after going on a ride. I dropped off my youngest and the bikes at home and went to pick up some dinner. While waiting in the car for my order, someone walking past looking at their phone (I watched it happen) fell right over it. I helped them up, and luckily they were okay. After that, I folded it back up.

Thanks so much for the info and photos! PS that Safari Camry looks rad! There'a guy down the street from here that has a Safari Miata - probably a fun toy.

Thank you. The Camry now has the handling of an old church bus, but it sure is fun! Perfect as the winter beater.
