Does anybody have a picture of the black interior of a 2012 3.8 base model? I can't seem to find anything that shows a good angle. I haven't seen it in person and am thinking that this might be the interior that I choose simply because I can't/won't spend the extra dough on the premium/tech package at the moment, but I still want a Genesis.

Is the black gloss on the dash solid colored or does it have some sort of wood grain? I can't really tell.

Does a 3.8 base model still count as a "real" Genesis on this forum? I hope so. Would love to be part of the "in" crowd.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Sorry I don't have pictures.

I have the black/saddle interior. The dash/door trim pieces are a darker faux wood color with a chrome surround, along with other accents in the center console.

I think it is quite attractive. I'm sure the upgrade package is much more luxurious-looking and feeling, especially with the leather on top of the dash and such.

The only way, unfortunately, is to see it yourself and decide. Oh, the dreaded sales-people.

Just keep in mind that the upgraded interior comes at the cost of purchasing an awful lot more. To me, it wasn't worth it, and I have never looked back. Believe it or not, the base stereo is not that bad compared to ~90% of the rest of the cars on the market, if that makes a difference to you.

No, I am sorry but you will not be part the "in" crowd if you purchase the base model, unless of course you pay all cash like I did, and then maybe you can get a pass. I would have sprung for one of the packages, but I really wanted a car without a sunroof due to head-room constraints.

The Genesis base model is one of the very few nice cars you can get without a sunroof. Even a decently equipped Accord (EX) or Camry (XLE) has sunroof as standard. The auto industry is run by midgets like that Krafcik guy.

I really wanted in-dash nav so I had to buy the premium package, which unfortunately includes sunroof. If I could have gotten the car without sunroof I would have done so in a heartbeat.

It presents a good value, but I think the 17 inch wheels look too small for such a big car. It still has all the the major drive train components, so don't sweat it.
It has a Plood grain. Yes there is a grain but it's fake wood. Doesn't look bad though. I prefer the leather dash though.

The 17" wheels do look a little small, but the Base Model alloy wheels on the 2009-11 are by far the best looking rims on the Genesis (not sure if 2012 wheels are the same).

The woodgrain (fake) dash on my 2009 Base Model black interior is a medium brown color.

Not that it's possible, but I would love to swap out my wood accents for this blackish burl look. Much nicer, and seems to fit the car just right.

Thanks for the pics. Now I can see what it looks like. I have seen the wood grain in the cashmere interior and didn't care for it at all. It looked to be an orange color. It may have just been this particular car, but I wasn't impressed. I've seen other pics where it looked fine. I do like the look of the dark wood though.

I prefer the leather dash as well, but I just can't bring myself to pay another $4,000 for it. I know I am getting more than just the leather dash, but again it's pricey and not worth the extra money for me. I've got a young family to take care of and they for some reason keep telling me they need to eat. So for now, I will have to be satisfied with the faux wood (dark interior). It looks nice, just not as nice as the leather.

I agree with the 17" wheels looking a bit small, but at least they are very good looking. Hyundai designed some respectable wheels for the
17s. 2012 17" wheels look very nice. They are quite different from previous years.

What about a used version? The car is reliable, under warranty and most of the painful depreciation is gone.

To me-the main reason I purchased the Premium package was because the 17" wheels are way undersized for the car. In fact, the 19"s are probably the perfect size rather than the 18"s that came on the Premium.
As far as the faux wood dash insert- I like it better than the leather, too

Of course, we are talking about asthetics, since both 17" and 18" wheels are the same diameter when the tire is included. 17" provides more cushion between suspension and road (comes in handy on the Genesis), and has slightly better traction in water or snow. The 18" has slightly better cornering/handling on dry roads.
