  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey Guys
I was washing my 2012 Genesis sedan and noticed a lot of carbon stains on the interior and exterior of the exhaust ports. Has anyone else noticed thison their Genesis's? I have the v6 version.
Thanks

I have noticed the same thing. I read that it normal for GDI engines. Don't know if that is true. I also have the V6 2012.

comes with most GDI engines.

Suggest you clean them. They wash off. Be careful with your fingers, it's sharp in there.

NEVR-DULL will cut through the soot easily and quickly.

I also put a good coat of wax on them. Makes the clean up process that much easier!

Gasoline grade may be part of the problem?? I have a 2014 and usually run 87 octane and get a fair amount of carbon. Using nitrile gloves and steel wool with my car wash solution seems to do the trick. The gloves will protect your fingers. And, since the tips are stainless steel, I will add a small amount of bleach. It is amazing how well bleach cleans stainless!!

I burn Mobil/Exxon Super Unleaded only in my 5.0 and I still get the black soot on my tail pipes. It isn't all over them, just on the bottom rim/edge of them. Comes right off when I rinse/wash the car with no problem.

resurrecting this thread - keeping the car clean is a nightmare, especially with white. Cquatz or other ceramic coating can be applied to make it much easier to keep the car clean. There are always protection films that can protect the paint as well but those obviously cost significantly more.
