  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Blank Instrument Cluster

Lately, on random occasions, I start my car and my instrument cluster screen remains blank. Shutting the car off and back on doesn’t rectify the situation. Only waiting (sometime up to two minutes) before the screen finally goes on. Anyone else experience this? Seems to have started after that last OTA update, but don’t know if it’s related or just coincidental. Problem I foresee is because of the random nature of it (I.e. can’t replicate it on demand) dealer may be unable or unwilling to do anything about it unless they can replicate it themselves.
Same thing started happening to me within the last month. It’s random and will come back on within 5 minutes usually but still annoying and kind of unsafe.

Agree, frequency is increasing. That could lean towards hardware issue...or maybe the colder temps are a factor (assuming its colder where you are as it is for me).
Our GV60 sits in a 65 degree garage and still has the issue. I don't think it is temperature related.

I used to think not temp related, but not so sure now. I had the black screen issue the last few days every morning in my 40ish garage. Today I preheated to 72 (which I do not think started the cluster screen so as to give a "head start") and did not have the issue this morning. Tiny sample size but maybe something. Do we have any members who are not getting colder weather having the issue?

I had a dream last night, I drove to work with a blank screen and I was wondering how fast I was going. lol I would image you can use a Nav screen to find out speed...

I do preheat every morning, never an issue after I started doing it.

Edit: always an issue if I don't preheat and the air temperature is in mid-40s or lower...

Now that is really interesting! That being said, you'd have to think that temp alone is not the culprit as the affected cars have seen cold before this and yet most/all report the problem started after the big airplay update. Not sure what to think at this point as cold points to hardware but timing points to software.

I’ve also pre-heated and it has made no difference.

Just thought I'd share that I got a call from Genesis in response to my complaint about the black screen issue. The rep had no real personal knowlege of the issue but said there was a new campaign initiated 11/22 addressing the matter. She said the fix might be software and if needed replacing the cluster. She said to speak to my dealer but she agreed to remain involved to make sure I am satisfied. I sent an email to my dealer and have not yet heard back. Not a lot, but something, I guess.

Just wanted to mention that the black screen issue has not cropped in days for me. No software update so I assume this is just random but thought I'd check if anyone else has experienced the same thing?

Pre-heating has made no difference for me. It’s frustratingly random. Came back from vacation where car sat in cold garage for a week. Started the car, screen came right up. Today, cold garage, preheated car to 72 degrees, started car. No screen. After driving about 10 miles, it came on at low illumination, then a few minutes later, full illumination. Subsequent stops, screen was fine. (Temperature here today, BTW, was mid 30s F.)

IT comes and goes randomly. Parked car outside last night in 17 degree temps. It came right on. The past couple of days when parked in garage it took about 10 minutes for it to come on.

It happened to me last week - and for the longest period I've experienced so far. Probably over 5 minutes of black screen before it randomly came back on. Since then, it hasn't happened, but our temps dropped into the teens here in the Chicago area - so I've been pre-heating the car. That doesn't seem to help for others here, but I assumed that's why mine hasn't had an issue since I started doing that around last Friday or Saturday.

I had the issue again today, so it is random, unfortunately!

I haven't seen any posts from 2025 owners or 2023 owners with this problem except for the 2023 owner that had his cluster with a different issue. I think there was a bad lot of display clusters that made its way into 2024's.

Mine is 2023, I believe there're more

My experience is similar to many of you, it started after the android wireless support but also after we had the first drop in temperature . We were in the 20s the last couple of days and I experienced the issue every day and every time I leave the car parked for > 2 hours. Maybe it's not only the temperature but it definitely has some major role.

I just came back from my dealership, talked to the tech and showed him a video of the issue, I also told him that many are experiencing the issue... he kinda dismissed the temperature as being the issue and said that he ordered a part; he didn't want to give lots of details, but he said it's the computer that runs the cluster screen, not all the cluster. It should be here next week and I will update you once I get more details.
So maybe Genesis identified the issue and they have an action plan on how to fix it

Interesting, most of us have been told the fix is to replace the cluster which is on backorder. I really hope this gets sorted out before they need to install a new cluster especially if that's not the fix!

I did not know these were on backorder. Your reference to the backorder prompted me to call my dealership - and they confirmed the same. In fact, it appears it's an indefinite backorder. He triangulated through some other system that the Chicago area may get a few clusters shipped by the end of February - however, it doesn't mean their dealership will get them. He conservatively suggested the backorder could be a few months. He also said he escalated mine as an "EXVOR" which means it now has an emergency status - so I'll be pushed up the backorder waitlist, but he still conservatively said I shouldn't expect anything anytime soon.

The only other thing he suggested was calling Genesis. I did, and there's a case # already in the system for this - and the rep was surprised someone hasn't called me by now since the case was opened weeks ago. So, he said he'll send them a message to call me. I'm skeptical - and probably just going to wait this out at this point. I traded in my BMW for this car, which had absolutely no issues, and an excellent dealership experience (my Genesis dealer barely answers the phone outside of the Sales prompt - and it took me hours to get a hold of someone today). I was worried about giving Genesis a try - and now starting to regret it. I'll just wait and see at this point. I'm only on week 3 with this car.
