If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was driving in snow last week and my dash displayed the message :BSD Canceled" periodically. Has anyone had this happen? It was snowing, after dark i in the mid 20's (F). The next day, Blind Spot Detection was working fine.

This happens when snow or slush builds up on the sensors. They are the little round inserts you can see on the bumpers. This same problem will also make the smart cruise control, auto braking, and parking assist systems go perquacky. You can wipe off the snow and the systems will start working again.

I think Hyundai should put a heater in the front radar thingie so that at least the auto emergency braking will continue to work. The rest of the systems are not as important, but to lose emergency braking just when conditions are bad is not optimum.

I got the willies just from reading that.

I don't think a heater would do much if the salt builds up which it would do as soon as the ice melts. Most the time in my semitruck it's salt that blocks the sensor.

I've never had the blind spot detection not work because of snow/slush but I have had the sensors for the front parking assist get covered up because of slush. Let me tell you how annoying that is. Every single stop light I came up to the system would go crazy making noises and flashing the front bumper logo like I was about to hit something. It was very annoying.

I'm sure there is a way to disable that feature but I was driving in stop & go traffic. I wasn't about to get the manual out and look it up on the road. Thankfully I was only 5 miles away from home so I didn't have to endure it for long otherwise I would have had to pull over and wipe the sensors clean.

The one time I had trouble with the sensors was a trip from VA to NJ. The temp was just 32 degrees all the way with wet snow and slush. It built up on the radar thing in the grille and stopped it from working, if I wiped the slush off it worked again but only for a few minutes. This was probably a worst case scenario that won't happen often.

Maybe instead of a heater it could have a hydrophilic coating so nothing would stick to it. Or maybe a third squirter like the headlights have for cleaning.

It would also be nice if it was not shiny plastic so it would not stand out quite so much...

I get the “bsd canceled” message frequently. Happens when the car is clean and the weather is clear. Happens when the BSD button is turned on or when it is turned off. The only way to clear the alert is to turn off the car. The alert covers the entire dashboard screen and won’t go away. I took my 2015 Genesis to two different dealers. They both told me they can’t fix it because “they can’t recreate the issue and there are no error codes”. I contacted Hyundai customer care. After wasting hours of my life, they also said there is nothing they can (or are willing) to do. I know this is a known issue because it is all over the forums. It affects not only Genesis but all Hyundai vehicles with this piece of crap BSD feature. Buyer beware!!!

I haven't had any problems with BSD on my '15 Genesis. The only thing that has bothered me is the park assist squaking at me when I'm in reverse. The entire back end is covered in snow (Alberta, Canada). A quick cleaning solves the problem.

I actually find that the BSD works quite well in my car.

@the.tru.albertan. I am sure not every BSD system is flawed. However, mine is. My concern isn’t that the BSD is broken, hardware and software are not perfect. I am concerned that Hyundai doesn’t really care that a customer is having a problem. So because of that, I would never recommend Hyundai or Genesis to anyone despite being a good car overall. This damn alert is huge, bright orange, in the middle of the dash. Ding ding ding ding over and over again. Really????

I discovered this BSD Cancelled problem within the first month of having my 2015 Genesis. Its been happening sporadically ever since. I have noticed it only happens to me on quiet roads only where there is no other cars for a while. Sometimes in only 20 minutes most other times after 45 minutes. It happens whether the BSD system control button on the dash is the on or off position. It happens in rain, shine or snowy conditions and ALL the dealers in Calgary Alberta are not willing to attempt to repair it as they cannot replicate the fault.

(This is my only complaint about being a Genesis owner......dealing with incompetent dealers that want to maximize their revenue potential by performing unnecessary services while failing to attempt to isolate any reported intermittent problems because they cannot replicate the issue....end of rant)

I have shown them photographs of it on the dash but they all seem to be doing the same thing. They must be aware of as its a common issue on all Hyundai and Kia vehicles equipped with this feature. Google it and see.

I won't make you feel any better, but it is not just Genesis dealers that do it. I've seen it at Ford, Mercedes, Chevy, Buick dealers that I've used.

I have had this happen twice in my 2015 Tech. Both times were in Western Canada. I live in Ontario and drive out west every couple of years.
Once in Alberta and once in Sask. Both times on "bumpy" surfaces. However, the bumpy services were similar to paved pea gravel, gave a sort of vibration.
Been on similar surfaces elsewhere before and after, but never a problem. Happened in 2015 (Sask) and 2017 (southern Alberta). Lasted for about an hour, then returned to normal. Wouldn't restart until I restarted the car the second time.

Exactly. Hey Hyundai. Are you reading this? You clearly have a problem with your BSD system vendor. Please make it right and convince me that I should buy another Genesis when it is time to replace my vehicle. So far your customer care is a joke.

I am not sure why you are yelling at Hyundai. If you buy another car it will be from Genesis. Only one of all the posts owns a current generation Genesis so how is this a major problem? I am sure there are some more and also that the BSD system can be improved but I don’t see this a a big priority for Genesis. I would rather they concentrate their engineering on more critical issues.

Found this post by searching for my issue. I have the exact issue you describe. Please let me know if anyone finds a solution or a way to convince the dealer to fix it.

I talked to the dealer. They said when you are driving and no car around for sometime it will happen.
It seems to happen when I drive over 110 km/h or 65 m/hr and haven’t passed any car in last 30 to 45 min. Then when I come to the city and after a while it is working again.
I think the design is stupid. Someone need to change this in the software.
They did it as a safety major. When it doesn’t detect any car it assumes the BSD not working. And cancels it. How stupid?
My friends car have the same issue.
In Canada this is pretty common since not many car on the road.

I have a 2015 tech same issue . Wondering if it's salt or sand /dirt inside the bumper from winter driving . Anyone check that out?

I just got my 2015 Genesis and two day's ago and that light keeps coming on after a day pof driving. so basically what i just read is no one will care and fix it? so this is just going to be the nor? your all kidding right? they have to have a recall on it or something that's not right.. HELP!! Someone!! that's crazy!!!!!

understanding this post is 3+ years old, I would just like to point out that the BSD is NOT the little sensors in the bumper, those are the backup sensors.

the BSD sensors are large and behind the corners of the bumper cover under the tail lights. The do right precise calibration and if the corners of the bumper come in contact with anything it can knock them out of calibration, even if there is no visible damage to the car, it is possible that contact knocked the sensors loose, bent a bracket, etc. even a harsh pot hole impact can vibrate them enough to cause and issue, and this is with any brand, not just Hyundai/Genesis.
