  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

Some of you may have saw my pictures in the 'Picture Thread' that I bought this past Friday. I live in SW South Dakota and drove over to Bloomington, MN after following the car on Autotrader for awhile. I have always enjoyed how the Genesis looked and the options it had available. I was considering a Chevy SS and Stinger GT along with the Genesis. I like cars to say the least having owned about 12 in the past 5 years or so. I figured I might as well indulge in the Genesis a bit since finances allowed it.

Salesman
The guy was decent when I first called the dealership to get some info on the car. He sent some pictures I requested in an acceptable time period of some imperfections the car had. When I got to the dealer, there wasn't any other imperfections which was a plus on his part. That's where the "good news" ends. Because I'm 24 (and I'm 99% sure it was because of my age), he shunned me a bit. Didn't really talk about the car when we were test drivings; answered questions in a short, non-engaged way, pretty much thinking I could not afford the car and I was wasting his time. Only until the finance guys told him I was approved that he started showing interest. He gave me the car's history that I asked for, ran through some things the car had, told me more about the CPO warranty, etc. I didn't give him much interest because I knew how he was thinking.

Dealership
As far as first impressions go, the dealership wasn't out of the ordinary. It was a decent size plot that was inviting. Not hard to get to and was actually only a mile or so down the road from the hotel I stayed in. The showroom was average size and had a little section for the G80. I really like how they had that section dedicated to the brand Genesis. I know they are having some issues with brand recognition but it'll save them money in the long run from having separate dealerships. The lounge was nice and roomy and the coffee was much needed.

Finance Guys
One was a *****, one was decent. The guy haggling with me about my trade-in was pulling numbers from God-knows-where. I finally talked him up a couple hundred and we settled on a deal (car was only worth 8k so a couple hundred makes a difference). He gave off a frustrated impression and was only looking to benefit the salesman and dealership, not the customer. I don't expect much when it comes to customer service but, if I don't feel welcome in the place, that's management's problem. I would have turned my a** right around if I hadn't driven so far and they wouldn't have gotten my business. Again, it was probably an age thing. The one going over paperwork and signing documents with me was engaging. We talked cars for awhile and how he has 6 and a couple motorcycles. We bullshi**ed for a bit and then I was on my way.

Service Department

The lady I worked with to order a trunk Genesis badge was helpful. She told me she would order one and send it my way. This was probably the best I was treated at the dealership.

Overview
Would I buy another car from there? No
Would I recommend this dealership to someone? Depends on the person. Different kinds of people, needs, wants, all of that.
Was the car worth the trip? Absolutely

This is by no means to defer you from buying from this dealership. I am only stating my opinion and my experience I had with the dealership. I reckon if i was 15 years older they may have taken me serious from the start. People will be in there ways about how they want to run a dealership and who they want to represent the name of the dealer and brand. I think it is a fault, again, on management about them not knowing simple customer service characteristics and disseminating those to everyone in the dealership.

Complaining? No. Dispersing information on a dealer that has prejudices when selling vehicles? Yes.

Cheers,

Dan

You may be right about the age thing as the Genesis tends to have older buyers. OTOH, I was in my mid sixties and wanted to buy a Sonata. First thing was "that financing is only for the best credit. (my credit score is 830 he found out). He offered a small discount but nowhere near what I was looking for. I walked out and drove 40 miles to another dealer. Two days later he called and asked if I was still interested. I asked why he did not give me a better price when I was there and he said he thought I was not serious. If was fun to tell him I was serious and bought a car that same night.

Good to get reviews like yours though. It can help the next guy going in there as well as tips for everyone.
