  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all,

I had posted a different thread several weeks ago, but since we are in a new year, I thought I would start out with a new one.

I have a 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate (black on black), which I like very much. I got a great deal, added the 100k warrantee since it had a couple thousand miles on it, and life is good. Sure, there were a few things here or there, but nothing major.

(The fact that I am calling a "remote start" problem as major, shows how pathologically lazy I am, FYI)

Anyway, my App-enabled starts were going along just fine, save the occasional problem when out in the middle of nowhere, or in a garage, but overall, pretty darn good. In fact, during the summer, I enjoyed lording my fancy app over my friends, by starting my car from the bleachers and having a nice 70 degree interior waiting for me, unlike my sticky friends. All the while waving my phone in front of them mocking their far-more-expensive cars that lacked this cutting edge technology.

I guess Karma was laughing at me...

Everything was fine until about 3 months ago, when, for apparently no reason, it just stopped working. The app would give me the "Success!" message, followed closely by the depressing "cannot be processed at this time" response. At first, I messed around with all of the obvious possibilities, such as maybe the Blue link subscription ran out, or a change in credit card, or moving parking spaces, reinstall the app, use the other Hyundai app, maybe I didn't lock it totally, and on and on. Finally, the magical Blue link people in my car told me I had to take it to the dealer.

Generally speaking, I like my dealer. I live in Appleton, Wisconsin and Jon at Bergstrom Hyundai does a great job. Whenever I've had questions, he would email me, and all of that kind of actual customer service that most places don't do anymore. I bought my car there, and they give you 2 years of oil changes and tire rotations, so I had it in a couple times prior to this problem. It says something about Jon's service, that even though I've got a car they can't seem to fix, that I recommend you to take your cars to him.

Long story short is that this week will be my 6th dealership "experience", and they are no closer to fixing it today than 8 weeks ago, I think. Now this is not for a lack of trying. Even the mechanic has been texting me when the car is in the shop asking questions and giving me updates, and no one seems to know what is wrong with this feature.

I was rear-ended before this issue started happening, and had the bumper replaced, but they have looked at that up and down and say it has nothing to do with it.

The general consensus is that somehow the car is thinking that it is not fully locked somehow, even though the tech can prove to the computer that everything is locked, except he can't confirm that the sunroof is confirmed closed. Even though I have used the app to lock it, and set the alarm.

I can lock/unlock the car using the app, I can get the condition of the vehicle updated, and all of that, but cannot start it. They have replaced several modules of the electrical system, trying to fix it, to no avail.

Other than wanting to share my misery with the few people in the world who can sympathize, I have a couple reasons of writing this post:

1. Does ANYONE have a similar story or know of one that can shed some light on this? A very nice and helpful user named Harry Bahgina, who also lives in Wisconsin gave me the number of his dealer that figured out a similar issue, but for some reason, I can't seem to be able to message him back with any questions. Harry, if you are out there, shoot me a note, ok?

2. What happens if they simply cannot fix it? What are my options if they have tried everything they know how to try, and they have come to the conclusion that it just can't be fixed. What do you think my options are? (BTW- the car has 24k, purchased in June 15). What can I get in return for all of this hassle?

3. I told my dealer I'm on a Genesis owners board, and he said to go reach out, that someone might have the missing piece of the puzzle. So, if you do, please have mercy on a poor soul who is braving a northern Wisconsin winter without the ability to enter a warmed-up car with the steering wheel nice and toasty. For those of you in warmer climates, you will never understand...

Anyway, this post ended up waaay longer than I expected, but the long and short of it is, HELP! If you know anyone who has gone through a similar experience, please have them contact me if you would be so kind.

BTW- Yes, all of my friends whose noses I rubbed in with my cool new app toy, are just loving the fact that as soon as temperatures drop below freezing that my fancy-schmaltzy app decides to crap out on me.

thanks for listening. I think I saved $100.00 on my therapy bill....

I have a 2014 Geneses 3.8 with the Tech Pkg and I have the same problem...I send a command from the App on my I Phone and even after it says.."Request Sent" the car 90% of the time doesn't start..

I'm also having a Blue Link problem with it not working & constantly disconnecting when I push the button on the rear view mirror to ask it for directions..

When I called Blue Link about the starting problem, they told me that at least once a week you have to Push the Blue Link button & ask for a representative and ask him to give you the location of your vehicle..( Exact Words )..this apparently lets the system know where the signal must go...That's a lot of crap because I've had this car for 17 Months and never had to do that..

So far I haven't any luck getting any answers and I'm going to ask for a refund on the subscription today..

You are right, that is baloney. There is no way that Genesis owners are going to check in with Blue Link to let them know where their car is.

I never did anything like that and mine worked just fine until one day it didn't.

Have you checked to see if the lock/unlock commands work via the app? That would confirm that the software knows where your car is, it just can't execute the commands properly.

I'm waiting for approval from some regional guy at Hyundai for them to replace my unit, so I'm not much help to you, but I would certainly get my dealer involved if I were you.

good luck,

Pat

Exactly!!

The doors lock & unlock, the light flash etc...it seems to be working the last 2 days in a row now..

The big problem I'm having now is with the Blue Link voice guidance.

It constantly disconnects itself and won't give directions or take voice commands

Hyundai's Blue Link line said they were working on it 1 week ago. I paid a lot of money for this subscription so today I'm calling and asking for a refund.

I took it to the dealer & of course the Tech said there was nothing wrong with it..the Minute I walked outside of the service dept to get the car back I tried it and it failed..so I took my I phone & videoed what it was doing..

The service writer took my phone over to the Tech and showed him that its not working so he asked me to bring it back...

So my problem continues...
