  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am subscribed to Bluelink and can talk with the Bluelink service fine when I push the Bluelink left mirror button.

When I push the Bluelink voice local searh button on the mirror (next button to right of Bluelink button) I get the message "Connection Error" showing on the screen every time I try to use this feature.

Car is in the same location when I try both these button features.

The DIS Navigation System/Owner's Manual, Pg. 155, says "The search is done through network services, it is only available when connected to a communication network."

Does this mean I need a strong WiFi network connection to use this feature? I am connected to my home network at the car test location and signal strength shows 2-3 ring segments.

Can someone with the same Ultimate give this voice local search a try and let us know how well yours works.

Thanks.

I seem to remember an article that stated that there is a built in 3G modem used for network services. The article stated that it would be nice if it could be used as a hot spot but it wasn’t setup that way. They said maybe in the future there would be a firmware update to enable the hot spot function. I’m wondering if that’s what’s being referred to. Might it be a 3G signal strength problem? Have you tired it in a different location?

I believe network in this case refers to the Verizon data network the car uses for remote services, not your home wifi. I can't say much about the rest as I've honestly never played with the feature. I've only used the send-to-car a couple times with my forced trial of guidance that got tagged on to remote services at signup.

Typically works fine for me - I have had a few occasions where the network was apparently down, but rare.

When I took the car out and tried the Bluelink voice local search (at a stoplight) it worked fine. :D

Connection to the network (cell network it appears) was quick (5-10 seconds).

I asked for a restaurant by name not specifying anything further (such as city and state). My voice input was easily recognized properly. Search took about 10 seconds and a list was returned on the Nav screen.

Touch screen to select the one I wanted and into the Nav system it went. At that point I had choices to make it a destination or other options (such as call).

Worked very well.

So, bottom line is my connection error when trying it at home was a poor network connection.

Thanks all for the input.

Would be nice to be able to enable that on board 3G modem for hotspot operation someday.
Wishful thinking let's first get the voice recognition sorted out first.
