  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bluetooth Module connected to iPod cable

I initially tried a similar item that was to connect to the 30-pin iPod connector and give it Bluetooth. However, the Genny would not recognize the adapter.

I then found a much cheaper, and better, option. Bought a simple USB Bluetooth adapter on eBay that outputs to an Aux cable and it works like a charm.

Also elected to get a dual USB power adapter, rather than using the USB (as I use that as a media player).

The system reconnects when I start the car up and have used it with Stitcher, Pandora and Google Play. Sad that a $15 solution wasn't included in the car. But glad that it finally is available.

Yes! Just finished my DIY tonight. I bought this similar unit for $15 shipped:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Receiver-Adapter-Sounddock-Speaker/dp/B0094G44PS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385005373&sr=8-1&keywords=mpow+bluetooth"]Amazon.com: Mpow® Bluetooth A2DP Music Audio Receiver Adapter for Bose Sounddock and 30-Pin iPod iPhone Dock Speaker: Computers & Accessories[/ame]

I had to open up the factory iPod cable and unsolder the data wires from the USB port but it works like a charm now... the Genesis just thinks it's a normal aux input. Pairs automatically when you get in the car and sounds great. I'll post a DIY soon and would be happy to modify some cables for other interested owners...

Sounds good. If you could post a how-to for cutting which wires, that would be great.

I have another factory iPod adapter coming on Friday so I'll use that one for DIY picture purposes (and maybe figure out a way to open it up without the Dremel)

Just bought the Mpow® Bluetooth A2DP Music Audio Receiver Adapter from Amazon and modified the cable as described by acr.

I was able to open the cable case by wedging a small standard screwdriver into the seam between the USB and audio connector. Just pried a little and the case popped right open.

I disconnected all of the wires except the light blue USB-5V and black USB-GND.

The case went right back together with the help of a tiny bit of superglue.

Results:
The Bluetooth adapter pairing with my iPhone 4s was straightforward.

As expected there is no control of the phone from the steering wheel so if you want to advance or skip a song you'll have to do it from the phone itself. Volume isn't an issue as this is controlled by the car sound system.

The sound quality is good except for the fact that there is a distinct high frequency hum in the background that you can hear between tracks and at certain points during a song. The hum disappears when the Bluetooth adapter is disconnected from the cable and is not present when the phone is connected directly to the cable. This tells me the hum is inherent to my particular Bluetooth adapter is not due to any damage done to the cable when it was modified.

Overall, the cable modification is a piece of cake and I think I could live with having to use the phone to skip songs. What I can't live with is the annoying hum from the Bluetooth adapter. I'm curious to know if the hum is present in acr's setup. Perhaps I have a defective adapter. In any case I will be returning the adapter to Amazon.

Can u take pics of where u cut open the adapter?

No need to cut. Just wedge a small screwdriver into the seam as shown in the pic and twist. Case will pop right open. 2nd photo shows the 2 wires that are left connected.

Well done sir, I'll be using your method for my new cable that just arrived. Thanks for posting pics. Concerning the hum, I had it when I paired with my old Galaxy Nexus but it disappeared when I upgraded to the iPhone 5s yesterday. Is your phone connected to a charger when you're experiencing this hum? Simultaneously charging and streaming may have something to do with it. You may also want to make sure the cable is 100% inserted into the jacks.
