  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

You can dictate and read back Text messages and e-mails though Siri Eyes Free on the Ultimate Model (not sure about the other trim levels?). However, it won't proactively alert you to new texts or e-mails - you have ask: i.e., "Do I have any new Text message?". If you have any you'll get a response that tells you how many you have and from who and then Siri asks if you want them read to you. After reading them back, Siri will ask if you want to reply. Works very well! I use it with the phone connected with USB, so not really sure if works under Bluetooth connection.

I may have not used the correct wording/trminolgy; Text to Speech is what i was asking?? If the 2015 Genesis does this via bluetooth phone?

I tried it via bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free works that way as well. It does do both text-to-speech (reads texts you've received) and speech-to-text (replies with what you speak). However, it won't notify you that you received a text or e-mail on it's own - you have to ask it as I described above.

What is Siris Eyes Free? is that a app to put on I phone?

No - it's built into the car (at least on the Ultimate trim level). It does require you to have an iPhone connected, but you don't need any extra app on your phone. You access it by holding down the voice activation button on your steering wheel. It brings up Siri to do many of the things Siri can do directly on your phone via voice commands and and answers through the car so you don't have to look at your phone. If your question requires you to read an answer (so no direct answer), it will tell you it can't help you while you're driving.

It's only briefly desribed on page 120 in the DIS Navigation system manual (no e-copy available go post a screenshot). However, it works quite well and is a pretty cool feature! Look on Youtube, I suspect you'll find example of it in operation (other car makers are using it too).

Oh ok, Currently I have Siris on my IPhone 4S, Do I have to set something up on my Genesis to do Text to speech on the car?

No - when your phone is connected (Bluetooth or hardwire), press and hold the voice command button for ~2 seconds and your Nav screen should flip to SIRI in large text. You'll hear a chime - speak your command and then you'll hear a second acknowledgement chime and the command will be processed and you'll get a response.

If you want to send a text, just say "send a text" and follow the voice prompts you'll get back!

There's also a small section on it at the bottom of this page:

I'm not sure if all iPhone models support it - I have a 5s and it works, but I'd suspect a 4s would support it since has Siri too?

Also, I don't know if Eyes Free is in the AV system on all the Genesis trim levels? I'm only speaking from my experience with my car which has the Ultimate package.

Has anybody been able to use this feature with an Android phone? Seems like a good feature but I'm an android guy.

Since Siri Eyes Free is an Apple product based on having Siri functionality on your phone, you are clearly out of luck!

Ok, I finally got around to getting in the Wifeys Genesis Sig. She has the IPhone 4S with bluetooth on I held the button down on the steering wheel & Siri poped up on Nav screen, I said "Text Gary" ,Siri asked what did i want to text, I then said what i wanted,Siri confirmed & when it asked me to Send ,I said yes, It sent to garys phone, when garys phone replied back, it only came through on phone ,NOT nave screen as when i sent it???

Right - it won't notify you when you get a text/reply (you'll have to wait for Carplay for that). To hear the reply, you have to press the voice button on the steering wheel and ask something like "Do I have any new texts?". Siri will then tell you what you have, ask if you want her to read them, and will give you the option to reply as well.

For sending texts at least, you may already have something similar on your phone. Just activate "Ok Google" on your phone; I use it all the time. I say "Okay Google", then "Send text to {name of person}: what time does the event start?"

It's not completely hands-free, because it will ask you to confirm that you want to send the text. In any case, I'm probably switching to the dark side (iPhone) on my next phone; at least then I know I will have the option of having it updated on a regular basis. This whole "Hey it's up to the manufacturers to patch those zero day vulnerabilities in our operating systems" crap is for the birds.
