I have a 2012 Genesis 5.0 Just switched to iPhone 12 Pro from Samsung 7. After some work with settings I managed to get BT pairing and have tested incoming and outgoing calls successfully. Thought everything was fine until I switched off car. When I start car again phone and car will not reconnect and car says it is still in the process of reconnecting and remains stuck that way. Phone says connection failed after trying. On the car I have BT auto connect switched on. Can only recover by switching off and on blue tooth etc. on phone and deleting phone on car and reinstalling everything. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Solved the problem. I unchecked BT Auto connect on car, restarted car and, on phone only, touched ‘Genesis not connected’. It then reconnects. It looks like with an advanced phone and old Bluetooth software on car, BT auto connect will not work and has to be done manually on phone.

I have the exact same problem! I called Apple several times and talked to a senior adviser. After 4 or 5 times trying to pair my iPhone 12 with the car, with the help of the senior adviser from Apple, it did the same thing your iPhone did.

I went to Genesis dealer two times and talked to the service guy and the sales people to no avail. I called Apple again and the senior adviser was in contact with Apples Engineering Department. They came up with the same solution you came up with. It has to be done manually on the phone. The Apple adviser put in a request to Engineering, to see if they can up-date the soft ware for the iPhone 12. If more people call in and complain to them maybe they will do an update.

Thanks Martyk. I spoke too soon. My connection drops after I make a call and there is no answer. So I don’t yet have a solution. I will call Apple as you suggest. Thanks for responding

Hi Marty. Unfortunately the problem is not fixed. When I make a call and end the call the phone and car disconnect. The phone will not connect again until I “forget” the car on the phone and reinstall all over again. I will contact Apple as you suggest

A quick online search for "Apple iPhone 12 Bluetooth won't connect" brings up a ton of posts about issues, from headphones, to cars, to speakers not being able to maintain a connection to the iPhone 12. People have factory reset the phone, reset the network settings, deleted all paired devices, nothing fixes it. Seems to be a bug in the hardware. It's not the Bluetooth version since Bluetooth is backwards compatible. Plus my phone has the same Bluetooth protocol as the iPhone 12 and I have no issues. That pretty much leaves hardware as being the issue.

Thanks Qship. Hmm, that doesn't sound good if its hardware. I am sure Apple will provide us with a free updated hardware iPhone 12 Pro. Is that a pig flying over a blue moon out there?

I have been experiencing similar problems. I will put my SIM back in an iphone 8 and see if it is resolved and report back

OK. SO I put my SIM in my old iPhone 8 and it connected and operated as previous. Conclusion? It is definitely an issue pertaining to the iPhone 12. since my wife has an iPhone 11 which works as it should.
A solution which I believe will work is far from ideal. I have older phones lying around so I will get a cheap plan. I'm in Canada so that will be a $15/mo option. I will use that as a car phone. I will forward my calls to that account when driving. It will cost me an additional $180/pa but it is worth it form a safety POV. By I am truly POd by this. Had I even suspected there would be an issue I would have switched to Samsung,

Hi Gerry. Seems like a good idea. I still have my old Samsung 7 which worked fine. I will ask my son if he can get this set up as I am on his business account.
Thanks for your help.
Derrick

Hi Gerry. Well, I think I may have cracked the meaning of life and got pairing of my iPhone 12 with my 2012 Genesis 5.0 working with help from Apple. This is what I did:
  1. Disconnected and reconnected Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on phone.
  2. Deleted connected devices on both phone and car.
  3. Updated IOS to version 15.3
  4. Renamed phone.
  5. Re-paired phone and car.
It now seems to work perfectly including auto Bluetooth connection on phone. Not sure what really fixed it. I still need to do more testing but so far it looks good.

derrickwl, i'm going to try your procedure with my 12 mini as well. will report back.
Maybe the IOS 15.3 update is the fix? I know i've done everything else on that list, but I am currently at 15.2.1.

fingers crossed.

Yes, I was on 15.2.1 as well. Some report back, it did disconnect when I made a call that didn't pick up and I cancelled. However, I was able to reconnect from the car without turning off the engine. I can live with that for now. Still testing.......

Thank you derrickwi :geek:

Excellent so pleased. Looks like Apple stepped up and fixed it. Hyundai didn't seem interested, so they lose a few points in my book.

I just finish trying to pair my iPhone 12 with my 2012 4.6. I did pair with the car but after I turned off the engine and restarted it, it drops the pairing. All I have to do is re-pair it every time I start the engine. I too called Apple and they try to have them help me, but it did not work. They even replaced my new iPhone 12 to see if it was the phone. I even went to Genesis dealer to see if they could get it to work. Same thing, it paired with the car and after you shut it off, it losing the pairing. I wrote about this last year. May be I am doing something different than you did. Please let me know if there is something I missed.

Regards, Marty

Marty. Since i moved from my iphone 8 to a 12 Mini, i've been getting the dreaded "Pairing Failed" messages on my 2013 3.8L Base 7spk system nearly every 2nd or 3rd times I start my Genesis. Was very frustrating and I even tried the Network Settings reset on my iPhone. I deleted all phones from my Genesis, and disconnected my car battery for 20 minutes. Nothing helped.

But after the 15.3 iOS update, I "forgot" the BT device from my phone. I renamed my phone, (added a character) and power reset my phone. Then I started my Genesis with BT off on my phone. This gave me a chance to delete the device from BT settings in my Genesis.
Then I turned BT on my iPhone 12, i paired a new device on my Genesis and was successful. This was yesterday. I've started my Genesis 4 times since then and BT auto-pairs every time now. Small sample I know, but it would have failed 3 times in the previous setting.
My son and my wife have iPhone 8's (iOS 15.x) and have not had any trouble, it's certainly a problem with the 1st Gen Genesis and the iPhone ~12.

my 2 cents, i hope it helps others.

Hi RG, I to have 15.3 iOS up date on my phone.

1) What do you mean (I "forgot" the BT device from my phone.)? Do you meant to turn it off on your phone?
2) You use a different name than before by "adding 1 character", to your name that you use before?
3) What and how do you do a "power reset" on your phone.

Sorry I am not very tech oriented, I do appreciated your help.

Thank you, Marty

Have you updated the IOS to15.3 on your phone? That seems to fix the pairing for some of us.

I think Apple’s IOS 15.3 update has solved the problem. No thanks to Hyundai Genesis who seem to want to ignore the problem.
