If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I never thought the BMW could be replaced; was I ever wrong. Each day when going out to drive the Genesis, I have an unexplainable excitement. The car is cool, hip, fast and more friendlier than the beamer, not to mention the heads that turn. I got the 2010 tinted, badged, and grill replaced and truly love the car. Oh yeah, you get a cooler and more fun car to drive in the Genesis for half the lease payment than the 750. Life is good.

You're not the only Bimmer owner who thinks this. The Edmunds long term road test crew has a V6 Genesis and a 750i. There have been repeated logs from the drivers how they prefer the Hyundai for it's ease of use luxury and slam BMW for over engineering their cars to death. Trying to change the radio settings on IDrive is similar to launching a satellite into orbit.

I'd really love to hear more from you about both cars.. I currently drive a 2006 750Li and I'm considering replacing it with a 2010 4.6 Genesis. I was originally considering waiting for the Equus but I'm not 100% sure I want to do that. I'm getting very tired of making extremely high car payments and at the same time, I really like the Genesis.. So your input is very important to me..

Actually had a chance to see the new Equus (they are on tour), One word: awesome Genesis on steriods - but the 4.6 still comes across very well for probably $15K less (although the 4.6 will likely be up another $2K to $45K by then) Equus likely in the 50's next year. will be under $60K

Maybe I'm off, but why do these comparisons to the 7 series keep coming up in a 5 series size automobile? I mean, do you see people comparing a 5 series to a Lexus LS over and over....? No. They compare the 5 to a GS. Not an LS.

For the Genesis, it would be more like, Gen 3.8 to a 528i and 535i (although there are two Mitsubishi turbos' sitting atop that 6), and the Gen 4.6 to 550.

Here is one of the guys commenting at Edmunds, trying to open some eyes:

"First of all, you don't compare Genesis to a 750i, period. If anything, you need to compare it to 535i, then I would be willing to accept the outcome. I had a chance to drive Hyundai Genesis recently and I also drove a BMW 528i for a week. Let me say here and now that I would take a BMW over Hyundai anyday."

Face-Off: 2009 Hyundai Genesis vs 2009 BMW 750i

Obviously this article is tongue and cheek. But the overall point is that a few of the testers have chosen to drive the V6 Hyundai over the BMW 750i. Largely due to the fact that the Genesis does 95% of what you need, simply, effortlessly, and you don't need a PhD from MIT to operate it. The fact that the two cars can even be uttered in the same sentence says a lot.

I think this makes one good point, there isn't a way to compare a Genesis to a BMW....

the 7 series is in a different class but size and power wise a 750i and 4.6 Genesis match well on paper. the 7 has a lot of features not available on the genesis which makes the comparison mute.

A 5 series is too small,

having said that I would like to see a Genesis in a comparo with a 5 or 7 and E550, M45, GS460 by someone.....

Go look at the specs for weight, length, width, etc... It speaks for itself.

I think the Equus will be more appropriate for head-to-head comparison with a 7-Series, though value does factor into the Genesis in comparisons more than the Equus probably will. In other words, it's not an apples-to-oranges comparison, but it's still good fruit at a fraction of the cost of the best fruit.

The Genesis is considerabley larger than the 5 series especially in interior space. In fact it's dimensions are almost identical to the Lexus LS 460. Although I have great admiration and affinity for BMW's, the application of a normally aspirated inline six in a car as large as the 528i, doesn't work, it's totally underpowered. The 535 is another story, but then again, your're paying 50 larger, versus 35 large. Not to mention the current 5 series BMW scores 3 stars out of 5 on the NHTSA front crash rating for driver. That's unacceptable for a large german sedan.

Genesis is a little bit larger than a 5. The guy in charge, Krafcik says the engineers concentrated on the 5, E, and GS. Not the 7 or LS.

Here, I mean, what else do you need. Here is Krafcik going over what they came up with to go against the LS. It's an Equus.

"Right now our engineering team is on a cross-country drive with an Equus, an S-Class, a 7 Series and a Lexus LS. We're there with the interior, but they are fine-tuning the ride and handling. Make no mistake, our targets are those three cars and our ride and handling will be more in the direction of the LS 460."

The Genesis is really S Class and 7 Series size for C Class and 3 Series money.

Rear seat interior volume in the Genesis is similar to that of the 7, not the 5, which by the way is about the same as that in the 3. The Genesis actually has more legroom that the normal 7, but not the longbase version. All BMWs are pretty much the same size inside though - the difference between 3 and 7 Series is typically 2-4" in any dimension.

Its wheelbase length is almost same as Audi A8.

Hyundai state that Genesis is same class in 5 series/E-class/Audi A6/Lexus GS/Infiniti M, But, Its interior volume, interior packaging, size.. certainly next level.

I test drove each one of those cars, looking for a midlevel lux sedan. I drove the Hyundai last, it wasn't even in consideration, till someone mentioned it to me and I almost laughed. I kept 20k in my pocket, so now I'm still the one laughing.

That 535i can haul some serious ass, but what's funny is the 3.8 Genesis is just a hair behind it up until around 80 or so. The 528i will get left behind if you opt for the auto. The manual is actually pretty quick.

I really like the way the 5 series drives, as well as most BMW's. I can't stand the way it looks though, and for such a large car, the interior space feels cramped. The new 5 will be unveiled shortly. From all the spy pics and photoshops, it looks very nice, but of course will be 60k.
