  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Borla exhaust for R-Spec... should I do it?

Rey,
For what it's worth, I finally installed a balance pipe between the two exhaust pipes where I removed the resonator. The raspiness, rapping or some may call it tininess, has been cut dramatically. I find it odd that such a small mod would make such a difference but it certainly has.
Merry Christmas

Couldy you post a video? I'd like to hear what it sounds like:D

Scottdk,
My tech college kid will be home tomorrow, I'll try and get it done over the weekend. I do know one thing, it certainly is a relatively inexpensive mod.

Good to hear. I did my exhaust mod a couple of years ago....before Borla or MagnaFlow had any kits out for the car. I bought two MagnaFlow mufflers and different exhaust tips and had them put on. Out the door with install was around $350. Now a days I would buy the Catback for a little bit more money and installed it myself, but I was too impatient to wait for a kit to come out, and IF one would come out.

Scott,
Just for clarification, all I did was remove the secondary cats, and remove the resonator. If one goes back through this thread there are numerous pictures. If one does this best they install the balance pipe as they do it. As we all know, the mufflers on the 2012 models exit through the bumper. I know of no one that makes an after market muffler for the Genesis 2012 models.....yet, that properly fits. I'm relatively certain Rey tried it and gave up. I tried as well but the stock mufflers are a very unique shape.

I understand what you meant, and also that you just removed the sec cats and res. Not sure if the mufflers changed on the 2012's but below is a pic of one of my OEM mufflers from my old thread. It was pretty basic to fit a new muffler into the same spot. With the 2012's I would think one of the many MagnaFlow mufflers would fit, except you could save money since you wouldn't need an exhaust tip since the rear facia has the fake ones and aren't connected anyway.

Scott,
If you like, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a short video. If you can figure out how to post it, please do. It will be just after a cold start when the computers are making the engine work.

Video works. I'm at work and my computer here doesn't have sound, so I'll look forward to watching it again when I get home....

Scott,
As one can see I'm relatively close to the car. When I drive I can barely hear it and there is absolutely no droning. Sound works on my desk top. Balance pipe was the key.

I watched the video and it's sort of difficult to tell how it sounds without a few rev's or a driving clip and also my computer not connected to my home theater speakers (I'm too tired to get up).

I have had my 5.0 R-spec for 6 months now although I love it I am a little disappointed in the Power.I am not finding a lot of information on any Performance Upgrades. Can anyone give me some ideas? Getting ready to re-due exhaust bit other than that what are my options

I'd like to hear more:D What is it about the power you don't like? The engine makes more power than the BMW M3, 5.0L Mustang and the list goes on and on....I'd say the car is PDQ for hauling over 2 tons.

The RSPEC should sound like a V8. That's why we bought a "sport" model. I really hope Hyundai reads these forums. I've been trouble shooting the exhaust issue for a few weeks since purchasing my 2012. I tried the previously mention MSA 2nd Cat delete and that was non-effective.

I will be going to a custom exhaust shop this afternoon for options. I'm thinking Borla mufflers alone might be the trick. I will take a video of the MSA mod now for you to hear... *VERY CLOSE TO STOCK*

I had a Magnaflow X-pipe installed right behind rear Cats... Resonators removed....Sounds Awesome...It's actually funny when I pull up with people around they turn around and start looking around to see which car it is. Can't tell you how many times I get asked....Dude what kind of car is that and what.s under the hood.

Do it!

YES, YES, YES!

order the pipes, take them to the dealer, I paid < $40 for them to install, took minutes.
I have no clue where losing your vehicle for two weeks came from (reference to previous post in this thread)
Hey yuhaze, send me a PM about the Borla catback.
