In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just found this site. You guys are really a great source of info on the Tau V8. I belong to 2 other Kia BBs and they are great for my Borrego but, there are just very few V8 Borregos out there so their info. is limited on those boards. The Borrego version of the Tau V8 is a de-tuned version of the Genesis Tau V8. It has lower hp (335 vs 375) and a broader torgue curve (for towing), but many of the features and problems are similar. I plan to sit back and listen and offer any info. that I can.
Looking forward to visiting here!

Great to have you here and enjoy your stay!

I just bought an suv myself...but it was a hybrid. I looked at the Borrego...and enjoyed it but the V8 was just not powerful enough to satisfy my cravings. To me, a lead foot guy, that was a deal breaker.

Surely Hyundai will come out with a BIG suv and throw the real TAU in it!

Anywho...enjoy your stay!

Excuse Me? 340HP isn't enough? Real TAU? I have a fake in my Borrego? LOL They all come from the factory with 87 octane fuel in them the TAU is a stumbling slug on regular gas see for yourself. The TAU is a completely different motor when used with 93 octane.

Actually, one of the main reasons for puchasing my Borrego Limited was because of the Tau V8 ( and many other reasons like the ZF 6speed transmission). The Borrego version of the Tau V8 is only de-tuned in the sense that it is designed to tow up to 7500#. This requires more low -end torque than the Genesis Tau version can produce. That increase in low-end torque come at the expense of some peak hp, you can't have both. 340ish hp from a 4.6L engine is very respectable in an vehicle. I have owned a number of SUVs including an HO equipted Grand Cherokee and this Borrego will hold it's own with any of them.

Sorry guys...in my opinion...the 5.7 Sequioa won...hands down.

But...I couldn't see myself dishing out the $$$$$ to get the Platinum edition...yet. They need some time to hit a few used car lots! HA!

Now...here's a funny! I was cruising in to work today at 70 in a 45. Next thing I know I have a KIA suv in my rear view. Very unexpected... HA

We stopped at the red light, gave each other the nod, and I noticed the V8 logo.

We made a turn and both floored it, and well...I leave the rest to you.

Have you heard that song..."Dust in the Wind!" HA!

Just messing with you guys. :) The TAU is an amazing accomplishment for Hyundai/Kia!

I agree, the Sequia is a very nice SUV, but the extra $10K+ puts in a different price range than the Borrego. If you compare the Borrego with the others in it's price range, the Borrego wins hands down.
At over 4K#, the Borrego is no drag racer, but then, most do not purchase them for that. If you want a hot SUV, you might consider a Grand Cherokee SRT8.

According to KIA and Toyota.

KIA: 4x4 EX with 4.6 V8 = $40k
Toyota: 4x4 SR5 5.7 V8 = $42K

Maybe 10K for the Platinum Sequioa.

As I mentioned earlier...I like the Borrego...but the 5.7 is amazing!

Also, they are 2 different classes of cars. The kia, according to Edmunds is a Mid-Size SUV. Of course, the Sequioa is a LARGE suv.

Sorry I made this an apple's to orange's comparison. HA!:p

Enjoy your Borrego!!

Toyota has a 4runner with a 4.7 V8 2wd for 29k (4wd is a couple grand), but these days, that could be anywhere in the mid 20's if you know how to haggle. Anyway, is that comparable?? I mean, that is a pretty large vehicle, is'nt it??

They also have that kickass V6.

My friend has a 2006 4Runnere SR5 4.0 V6. He got it as a new vehicle in 2006 and the sticker was around $32,000 from what I remember. Little pricey for a near base model. BTW 2WD if I'm correct doesn't exist in the Northern states such as MN. The 2010 V6 starts at $29,175 and V8 starts at $39,800.

I'll take the Borrego V8:D

Here is the 4x4 V8 showing at $31K, however, I guarantee that is not what they are going for. If you know what you are doing, I don't think high 20's are un-common, or even lower. If you can't get this one in your state, just leave the state, get one, then go back to your state.

where did you find a 2010 V8 4-runner? my wife drives a 2004 V-8 and we are starting to look around to replace it. we checked out the borrego but she didn't like the styling of it. not SUV or truck like enough for her. i don't have a clue, i just go with the flow. but i didn't think they were going to offer a V8 in the 5th gen 4 runner, at least not this year.

I see. You guys are talking about the new generation. No V8. Go try and steal an 09' V8 zed.

I paid $27,500 for my fully loaded premium pkg. EX V8 Borrego. $39,400 list.

I was on the Toyota website checking prices, but the "models" page doesn't display due to an error. I did happen to find the prices (msrp) and I assumed the highest priced would have the V8. Either way, TOO much money IMO. Even as much as I love the 4Runner. I'll take the Borrego anyday.

I seriously considered a Toyota Hylander (and several other mid-sized SUVs for that matter), but when it came down to "bang for the buck" the Borrego Limited won, hands down.
Here are some of the facts in making my decision over Toyota's offerings:
1.)Are Toyota's V8s (5.7L or 4.7L) listed in the Wards 10 best engines in the world? NO! The TAU V8 in my Borrego (and Genesis) is.
2.) Does a comparable Toyota tow 7500#? NO!
3.) The Borrego uses the ZF 6 speed automatic transmission used in most high-end SUVs (BMW X5, M-B SUVs, Range-Rover)
4.) Toyota's warranty can't touch Hyunda/Kia
5.) A comparably equipted Toyota was considerably more expensive than the Borrego.
There are a number of things that I would change about the Borrego if I could, but, the overall package met my needs better than anything out ther right now.

Those are all killer attributes Robert, and I would probably end up doing the same thing you did, if Toyota prices theirs out of the ballpark, etc....

So you've got the mechanical specs that create the bargain. The one thing I am BIG on, however, is interior refinement. How it makes you feel when you get in, and how every little moving part feels. I sat in a brand new Venza the other day, and it was like "Hello!", I'm in a freakin Cadillac this thing is so nice. That right there is worth, I dunno, quite a bit, to me at least. How does this thing compare, as I don't have experience in your vehicle?

For example, IMO, you can tell the difference if you go sit in a dealer lot Sonata and push and pull everything in it, and then go sit in a Camry at the dealer next door and do the same thing.

I agree, interior refinement is very important. In my opinion my Borrego Limited's interior fit/finish/comfort is on par with of the Japanese and American offerings. Obviously, the high-end Euros, American and Japanese (in my opinion) are better. My limited has Black perforated/heated leather seating on the front and middle seat. The rear seat is a synthetic material. We have taken several 4 hr. one-way trips and we find it very comfotable. I am 6'/200# and I have good head/leg room. Granted, a Sequoia or Suburban would probably be more comfortable.
I have alot of respect for Toyota products. They are the benchmark bywhich most other vehicles are judged. I just feel that Hyundia/Kia products offer a better value. This is reflected in their world market share (Up to 4th, just passed Honda).
Robert

Got it Robert. That sounds like an awesome machine!! For the heck of it, when you get a chance, go sit in an upper level or "limited" Venza, and tell me what you think. Maybe I thought too much of it, but it seems like that is Toyota's newest, most modern and refined attempt.
