If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Was looking for an excuse to take a ride today, so I took the long scenic route to Orlando Hyundai. Talked with the Retail Parts guy to check a few things out. (Real nice guy, as everyone I've dealt with, Salespersons and even Service Manager, have been great). I asked him about the oil filter, if it was a Spin On, or a Cartridge. Said it was a Cartridge filter, and he showed me a view of it on his computer parts screen.
Have no idea where the filter is located, however the view on his screen shows that the filter is replaced vertical.

I've read other posts where guys have looked for the filter location and can't find it. I will just wait until I get it changed at the dealer to find out where it is located. (Not that I'm ever going to do it myself, but I could if I have to).

Just for the heck of it, I looked up the filter in the Purolator website. It shows that both engines take the Purolator # L25848 Cartridge Filter.

Would be great if it was right on top of the engine, like the Mercedes E320, right there in front. Perhaps it is, just hidden under the top engine cover.

It is on top, I believe towards the firewall. You just lift off the plastic engine cover and you should see it.

Interesting that Purolator sells one. I will have to check it out and compare the quality to the OEM (of course it would not be surprising if it were the exact same filter).

Some members in this forum mention the oil filter for the V6 is on top but the oil filter for the V8 is down under to the rear of the engine.

Using the Purolator "Where it fits" search, these are all the cars that use this filter:

Where It Fits Results

Purolator Part #L25848

HYUNDAI Genesis - V6 3.8L F.I. (VIN E) (24V) 2009
HYUNDAI Genesis - V8 4.6L F.I. (VIN F) (32V) 2009
HYUNDAI Veracruz - V6 3.8L F.I. (VIN C) 24V 2008-2009
KIA Borrego - V6 3.8L F.I. (VIN 1) 24V 2009
KIA Borrego - V8 4.6L F.I. (VIN 2) 32V 2009
KIA Sorento - V6 3.3L F.I. (VIN 5) 24V 2008-2009
KIA Sorento - V6 3.8L F.I. (VIN 6) 24V 2008-2009

Well, I'm not going to worry about its location for now. When I get the dealer to change the oil and filter, I will watch to see where it is.

Our parts catalog specs the Genesis 4.6 with pn 26320-3F100 and 3.8 with 26320-3C250. These are "filter kits" since they are cartridge filters and they come with new o-rings for the cartridge. The filters do appear as though they could be interchanged. Interestingly, the filter element itself for the 4.6 (the one from the -3F100 box) has the number 26330-3C300 printed on it. When I punch that (26330-3C300) into the parts catalogue, it shows that 26330-3C300 was superceded by 26320-3C250, which is the part number for the Genesis 3.8 filter kit. Draw whatever conclusions you want from that. :)

Oh, and the oil filter for the V8 is at the front of the engine, at the bottom in a horizontal position. V6 filter is on top, rear of engine, under that cover as stated by a previous poster.

List for each of these kits is $6.85 at the dealer.

The filter kit I recently bought at a Hyundai dealer had 26320-3C250 printed on the box and 26330-3C250 printed on one end of the filter element and cost almost $10. Sounds like Ed Voyles is the place to buy Hyundai oil filters. My filter was also on top of the engine at the rear under the pull-off plastic cover.

Wow, it doesn't get simpler than this:

On the rear of the 3.6 engine cover is a hint of where the filter is. The words "oil filter" and an arrow pointing to it are right on the cover. Look hard.

I have purchased that oil filter at two different dealers and they both charged $6.85. Sounds like you got ripped off.

To Mark 888:

Since my last post, I have located the Wix 57250 oil filter at FMS Filters (1-888-868-5891) for $4.11 each. I have received several of these filters; they are made in Korea, appear to be identical to the OEM filter and Wix states they meet OEM requirements for warranty purposes. The photo of the engine compartment above clarifies the location of the filter; although, I'll mention that I used a 1 1/16" socket (I didn't have a 25 mm socket) to remove the canister top.

Also to Mark 888:

I found a price difference at a Hyundai dealer for the same filter. When the dealer looked up the filter for the Genesis 3.8, the price was $9 plus. When he looked up the same filter by part number, the price was $6.85. The marketing folks are at it again.

I mentioned the possibility (probability) that after-market filters for the Genesis are identical to the OEM in another thread. There is not enough demand for these filters (and they are quite a bit different than normal filters) for every manufacturer to make their own.

I am not going to worry about the difference between $4.11 and $6.85, especially since the Hyundai filters are sold in a kit that includes the 2 rubber o-rings and the drain plug washer.

There have been a number of part number changes for these filters over the last year and half because of what is included in the kits (filter, o-rings, washers, etc). There are different drain plug washers for the V6 and V8 (even though they use the same filter). Also, don't attribute confusion within Hyundai as a marketing ploy. Not everything they do is sinister, even if it seems messed up at times.

Also, there is list price for parts, and then a "net price" which they extend to most customers, but some dealers may not do that unless the customer asks for the best price. Parts departments are always looking to maximize profits, so it is best to shop around. Most dealers will match a price at another dealer if you mention it to them.

Regarding the Wix 57250 filter; it is a kit and contains the 2 rubber o-rings and the aluminum crush washer, all at $4.11 at FMS Filters (1-888-868-5891).

To my location in the Southeast US here are their shipping charges:
1 filter - $7.85
3 filters - $8.58
10 filters - $15.70

By the time you pay shipping it is about the same (or more) as what my Hyundai dealer charges ($6.85), and I get lots of 10% off coupons in the mail from Hyundai.
