If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 09' Genesis has 60k miles. I have been using dealer for service as I cannot find a good reliable local mechanic.

Bringing Genny in this Friday for a check engine light. Had same issue 2 months ago. Turned out to be 2 bad coil on plug (C.O.P.). $400 to fix.

Looks like similar issue: flashing check engine and misfire.

Anyway, service advisor tells me that my Genny must have a brake flush.

I mentioned to him that there is allegedly some type of brake issue recall but to date I have not received a letter. He claims this is NOT the recall issue just regular maintainence.

Out of curiosity I call another dealer out of the area and I'm told there is a brake fluid issue and brake flush is covered under recall. No charge to me.

So now I'm completely lost.

I don't mind paying for repair of COP or other problems.

Does anybody have an advisory or reference number i can quote when my local dealership tries to bill me for a recall issue with brake fluid?

Earlier this year, Hyundai issued a TSB (Tech Service Bulletin) for a Brake Fluid Upgrade from DOT-3 to DOT-4 fluid. This was officially a "campaign" and not a recall. That means that any car brought in for service for any reason, must have this done by the dealer service department at no charge to the customer. Owners are NOT notified by Hyundai of this information.

Just recently, Hyundai announced that they are elevating this to a recall, and will proactively notify owners who have not already had it done. At this time, the recall might not officially have started (but will soon).

In either case, you should not be charged for the service. If you dealer says you will be charged because your car has over 60K miles, then just wait until the official recall starts, or ask another dealer. It is possible that your dealer just meant it is not officially a recall yet, and not that he is going to charge you, so ask for clarification.

A recall is in the works for this which also includes an inspection of the ABS module as well for models made before 6/01/2010. This is in addition to the brake fluid flush. For models made after 6/01/2010 only the flush will be performed.

For more info check out this thread http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=12395.

Either your dealer is grossly uninformed or is not being honest. Do not pay for the flush.

The bottom line: Take your car to the second dealer you called, not the first one.

By the way, how many threads do we have here now on this subject?

I wonder if some of the dealers are billing the customer for a flush and Hyundai for the TSB.

I had my done in September 2013. I was not charged for having the system flushed and refilled with DOT4.

I also had my coolant changed and I was charged $135.42, including tax.

The following week I had a major brake failure requiring a new hydraulic module assembly due to an internal fault. They recalibrated all sensors and bled the system once again.
I was told that this failure was showing up more frequently on sedan models.

I like my 09 Genesis and have been waiting for the 2014/15 model but now I am having serious doubts if I will purchase another Genesis.
By no way is this a negative rant but I have had many mechanical issues that have now questioned whether I'm going to spend close to 50k again.

Did you file a report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at this site:
https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

They would be very interested to know that you experienced brake failure after having your brake fluid upgraded to DOT-4. You may save someone's life.

Agreed. Hyundai proposed the solution as replacing fluid only. NHTSA is investigating whether to make them recall and replace the ABS modules as well. Blue_260, your case suggests evidence that the corrosion damage to the ABS module is indeed cumulative and replacing the fluid may retard or stop further corrosion, but won't prevent future failure due to already accumulated damage.

This is a big deal and Mark_888 is correct, posting your single event on the NHTSA website may save a life.

Just got a Safety Recall letter from Hyundai today (11/22).

This time its the stop lamp switch.
In short, the stop lamp switch may cause an intermittent operation of;
push button start/stop feature,
inability to move the gear selector,
intermittent cruise control,
no brake lights.

Like I said - I really like my Genesis but it is getting very hard to overlook all the mechanical issues and inconveniences I've gone through.

There is already a thread started on this brake light switch recall.

I think you it backwards. The cars that have voluntary recalls by the manufacturer are not the ones you should worry about. The ones to worry about are the automakers who put their head in the sand and pretend there are no problems, instead of stepping up and fixing them. Up until recently, Hyundai has had their head in the sand, but hopefully with this, and if they replace the older Genesis HECU (brake control) units, Hyundai can regain their reputation as a company that stands behind their products. We are all watching Hyundai to see what happens.
