Here's the story, point by point, followed by my dealer's response:
1. Took delivery of my 4.6 w/Tech on a Wed. afternoon. All was well, and quiet, until Saturday morning when:
2. Backed out of the garage, and when I applied the brakes going down the driveway, there was a LOUD squeal/grinding. When I put it in Drive and applied the brakes there was silence.
3. I drove about 1 mile, parked for about 2 minutes while getting my coffee, put it in R and the was NO noise from the brakes.
4. Same thing happened on Sunday and Monday mornings, and after the car sat at the train station all day. Only in R, never in D, after sitting for an extended period (10-12 hours?). And did I mention this is a LOUD squeal/grind?
5. Made an appointment for the brakes to be examined on Saturday. This is what the tech said:
"Checked brakes front and rear, all checks OK. At this time, some noise is normal when braking in reverse due to glazing on rotors".
Normal? I think if this howling was normal I'd have read about it here, right? All I know is that my neighbors liked the car when I brought it home. But I know they can't appreciate the 5:30 wake-up call I'm providing.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone else?
