  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, all

I just purchase a 2010 Genesis 4.6 with tech pkg.
The car is just great, lots of room and amenities. I have a 2008 3 series coupe, and it's a completely different in terms of characteristics and offerings. It's mo plush and easier to drive, and I like the power of V8. :)

I have a question. The maintenance plan shows oil change every 7500 miles. Do you follow that route? Or do you do your own plan?

Is it ok to use regular oil, or is it better to go with synthetic?

For my BMW, I use synthetic for every 7500 miles. Genesis does not require synthetic, so I wonder what other owners are doing on their cars.

Thanks!

Change it more often in the first year, unless it's a lease then you are wasting your money.

Nothing wrong with regular oil, the benefits of synthtic is mostly on start up at super cold temps and that you can leave it in your car longer. It's mostly only worth it if you plan on keeping the car a long time, and you can buy the oil cheaply.

What's the right oil for my car?

:welcome: I'm changing every 4-5K miles and using Mobile 1 Synthetic.

After reading your replies, as well as posts found by search, I see many are using Synthetic.

I think it's a great idea you buy your own oil, and bring it to a dealer and ask them to change oil. I am thinking of doing my first break-in oil change at 1200 miles. I will buy Mobil 5-20 from Costco and bring them with me for my first oil change. I will be sometime in late August, I believe.

BTW, I read some posts about the foul rotten egg-like smell outside of car. I encountered the same. After I turn off the engine and get out, I can smell a bit of foul smell. People are saying it's normal, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Have any of you experienced it?

Costco doesn't sell 5W-20, at least the ones near me. They only carry the 2 most popular weights which are 5W-30 and 10W-30. Personally, I would run 0W-20 or 5W-20.

The manual shows 5W-30 or 5W-20. Can either of it be a good choice?
I really need to study more on engine oil and its viscosity. I am a big time noob when it comes to car mechanics.

Hahaha, oh my gosh. I never thought about how similar those two cars look with each other. I actually like Genesis' look a lot better than that S class.

Man, am I glad I bought a Genesis. This is great!

It's really kinda of freekie...but as I look at them it looks like the Benz is "frowning". The Genesis is "smiling". Just look back-n-forth quickly between the 2 grillz.....
