  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bridgestone vs. Michelin

Last week I went ahead and got the Bridgestones at Costco, and an alignment (along with a 60K mile service). Then this weekend I went for a 1000 mile drive from Florida to North Carolina and back. My first opinion of the Bridgestones were, *dang*, these things are noisy! Especially on concrete Interstate. It turned out that was just the "newness" wearing off, by the time I got back, they were as quiet as the Sumitomo's I replaced. I95 traffic thru Georgia easily gets 80 to 90+, and these tires handled it no problems. The only thing I'm trying to decide about, is the car, at speed, seems a little more floaty, or hunting, than I'm used to. I'm thinking it's probably how the alignment was set. But then, I95 thru there has a lot of wavy grooves cut into the surface, so I'm not sure if it's fair to blame the alignment. I didn't really notice the issue on SC or NC interstates.

Finally getting new tires. Originals on 2011 Genesis 4.6 are Dunlop 97V.

Planning to get the W rated Bridgestone Serenity Plus tires.
Learnt that W is faster rating than V, for what it is worth.

Now, Costco also sells one Michelin tire that is Y rated (faster than W and V).

Does anybody know, if the Y rated Michelin tire is better on any dimension than the Bridgestone Serenity plus? (considering that my driving speed does not exceed 80).

Here is a PDF that compares the Michelin with the Bridgestone Serenity Plus.

Usually, the higher the speed rating, the better the handling and braking. But usually it means the tire will wear out much faster, and have a harsher and stiffer ride. IMO, the Michelin Pilot Sport is not a suitable comparison to the Bridgestone Serenity in terms of comfort, which is a factor considering your 2011 suspension.

A V-rated tire is fine for your car unless you are going to put it on a race track (some forum members do that). If you want a Michelin for your 2011 4.6, I would highly recommend the Primacy MXM4.

As soon as you get new tires, I would think about getting a front end alignment. Since you are apparently a Costco member, they will rotate your tires for free every 7500 miles if you buy the tires there. I have found that tire rotation is very important on the Genesis.

Y rated will give much harder ride. I love the Serenity W rated. I have had 4 sets including one set on an Acura. FWIW The best touring tire on tire rack now is the Pirelli Cinturato P7.

I have heard that the Pirelli doesn't perform well once tread depth gets below 50%. I have no personal experience with it, just what I heard. Michelin tires tend to perform well over the life of the tread (although there is always some fall-off).
