  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone!
I have been hit by the infamous broken dipstick tip, which I can only assume has nestled itself in the bottom of my engine. I decided to drop the oil pan, but noticed three of the bolts are blocked by the actual welded frame of the car. You have zero room to get the front three bolts out, let alone get a wrench in there. The image I attached is screenshot off a YouTube video, showing the crossmember blocking the front of the pan. Since this seems like a common issue, does anyone have a common fix, or a way to get this pan off? I obviously don’t want to damage the pan, I’ve flushed the oil but the tip didn’t come out. The dealership said it’s about $1k to drop the oil pan. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mine broke off as well but since the the oil pick up should have a screen, it's not doing anything detrimental nor a risk of getting sucked in. I let it be and just ordered a new OEM dipstick off ebay.

Thank you for the reply! How long have you been driving around with it? I’ve heard there’s a chance it could restrict some oil flow through the pump, is that a legitimate concern? I have a b2b warranty on the car, and I don’t think an engine blowing up over this is coverable. i did an oil change hoping to flush it out, but it didn’t.

I noticed it on my oil change in March so about 5k miles now. If it floats then it will always be above the pick up tube except when drained for oil changes. Then as it's refilled, float to the top again.

I have pretended it never happened, and no issues since 2019. :)
