  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

Got my oil and filter changed and two days later I wanted to check the oil level. I pulled the dipstick out, wiped it down and put it back in. Took it out again and half of the orange plastic piece that shows your oil level was missing (broke off and stayed inside the oil pan). I took it to the dealership and they are fixing it. They will be taking the oil pan down and this will cost me $233 including the new dipstick($15). I asked the service adviser if I can contact customer care and have them reimburse me for this under CPO warranty and he said I should have no problem. What is your take on this?

Thank you,
PK

S@#$ happens. You never know how the dipstick was handled or twisted by people checking the oil. Defective from the factory? Mishandled by mechanics? Unless you want to invest for an engineering analyses you will never know for sure. At least it is covered under warranty.

I don't really care how it happened or if anyone tampered with it before. As you said, it happens. They put me into 2019 Tucson until Friday. Can't wait to get my Genny back. Do you think I will have problems getting refunded by Customer Care for this? I know it will take time because I had to get my money back through them once.

Amazing they haven’t Redesigned and changed to an one piece all metal dipstick!

I would thing a typical one piece stamped metal would be cheaper. I'm curious as to why they would do a two piece. I don't care how well made it is, sooner or later, one will break.

I also wonder what damage it would do if it was just left in there.

There was a similar post that the plastic piece must have jammed in the tube or something cuz the rest of the DS wouldn’t go al the way down.
My thought is at that price replace the dip stick every couple of years. Hopefully that would aliviate the problem.
