  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, I've read the numerous posts concerning this error. I bought a great 2016 blue genesis from Carmax. Unfortunately when I took it the last 2 days this error pops up 10-20 minutes into my 1 hour commute and is super annoying and makes the display unusable. I think I'll return the car because of it despite being excellent in all other respects. My question is: do all 2016 Genesis have this error or will I be able to buy a different one without it? How about G80?

Of course they do NOT have it. Why would you suggest it is common to every car? Yes, it has happened but not so common.

Either take it back or have them fix it. Could be a bad sensor.

Thanks, some were suggesting this was a design flaw as it was happening in new cars and the dealer was claiming a safety feature. Do you have a 2016?

BSD cancelled is not a safety feature and any dealer that claims so should be torn a new one by Hyundai engineering.

No doubt, there is some problem with the BSD system or a sensor communicating with the driver interface. Either way, it's a repair item. If I'm not mistaken, the basic 5 year/60K mile warranty is fully transferable, and this should be within that warranty coverage. I'd contact your nearest dealer's service center.

As long as the sensor was not damaged in a minor push on the rear bumper by another car as that is not covered under warranty. You may not see the bumper damage causing the damage underneath as it was fixed before being put on sale. I would have Carmax commit to fixing it, and if they can't allow you to return. My car had a damaged sensor (actually the brackets were bent) that you could not tell on the outside was due to someone pushing it in.

Thanks all. Problem is I have 5 days to return the car and I can't get service from the dealer before next week. I'll see what carmax says since I bought their warranty too.

Just an update: Hyundai replaced the BSD sensor module--$2k--saying the tabs were bent from an apparent rear jolt even though there's no evidence of accident. Carmax paid for it and it works perfectly. Hope this helps some others, but it won't be covered under Hyundai warranty because it's not a defect but damage. Thanks all!

$2k ?! - that's steep!

I have had my 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 awd about a year, driving 15k. The car currently has about 42k on the odometer. I have had the BSD come on numerous times, the first when driving in winter and snow/ice covered the clear plate on the grill, other times just driving in normal traffic. I usually have to stop the car and turn it back on, and the BSD warning goes off. In the winter, I had to scrape the snow and ice off the clear plate. I have had the dealer check it and the results have always been: no problem. I was told to bring the car to the dealer when it goes on and not turn off the car, something which is not feasible when one is 250 miles out of town.

I'm confused. The clear plate is for SCC and AEB (automatic emergency braking) Blind spot detection is sensors facing the side. Either or both can be affected by a buildup of snow, slush, road crud though. In a really heavy rain the AEB will sometimes give a warning.

If it goes off far from home, maybe you are in luck and there is a dealer around the corner from you willing to take a look. Yeah, probably 399 miles in the other direction, but you could get lucky.

I have actually had all these sensors malfunction in both bad and good weather. It would appear that all started working again after I shut the car off. My front parking sensors works intermittently. The other day it went off when I was stopped in traffic with a midsize Ford sedan in front of me. In addition, the BSD went off when I was driving through Chicago and I took an exit. There were no cars near me.

I’m with @EdP. I’m confused also A lot of what you are describing either doesn’t make sense or is explainable and not a defect.
1. Parking sensors will often go off in response to another car’s sensor transmission. There are lots of posts about this behavior.
2. As @EdP pointed out the BSD function has nothing to do with clearing off the front plate

Your BSD warning message may appear
when :

One or both of the sensors on the
rear bumper is blocked by dirt or
snow or a foreign object.

Driving in rural areas where the
BSD sensor does not detect
another vehicle for an extended time

When there is inclement weather such
as rain or snow

So “maybe“ it’s not surprising that the dealer cannot find a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. All I can report is what I have observed. The BSD has clearly gone off in situations where the roads were clear, there was no snow or rain or road crud, the bumpers were clear of dirt, etc. And the front parking sensor does not consistently go off when I pull into my garage and park in the same place plus or minus 6 inches (meaning, at times when I am further back it will and won't go off). Gremlins.

Mcc is so correct, I live in rural America, and after driving for 20/30 mins the BDS will come on for like 5 seconds and then go off for like another 30 miles and then flash again. When I do encounter other vehicles works as intended.

I apologize for not being clear. When I said the BSD goes off, I mean malfunctions and the warning appears that it has stopped working. I then have to stop and restart the car. I also recently had the trip computer icon light up and an alarm sounded for approximately 45 minutes before it spontaneously shut off while driving in traffic.

What I did for the BSD canceled was shoot a video while driving so I didn't have to reproduce the error for the dealer. I actually tried to bring it in with the BSD canceled going off but I encountered another car so it started working again.

Sounds like the car gets lonely with no other cars around. Sometimes our 2015 ultimate 'talks' to other cars at stop lights.
