BSD goes crazy in tunnels?

I'm noticing my BSD will turn on when I'm in a tunnel with no cars near me. Anyone else noticed this or have it freak out? Each time I went over the i90 tunnels toward seattle, it would cause both to light up. As soon as I get out its goes away. Also noticed it coming on going thru certain under passes etc...

It would depend on how close you are to the side of the tunnel. I doubt that the BSD is trying to identify the object as a car specifically. I would bet the sensors are simply looking for an object in your blind spot regardless of what that object is.

its 3 or 4 lanes wide and no objects near me, both mirrors are lit and I went over those tunnels about 8 times over last week same results. I don't think its broken, I just wanna know what it would be that would cause it, I thought the radar had to pick up something traveling about the same speed as you.

It uses a radar system to see thing approaching from the rear. I would think it could be fooled if the construction included some metal in the walls or some reflective material lining them.

I can see that, I'm noticing that it could have to do with the height of the tunnel or the over pass. Just curious, if anyone have tunnels near by let me know if it happens to you.

We have one tunnel on the i10. I’ve used numerous times but never had that happen,has to be something in that particular tunnel your Genny just gets nervous about...lol

I went through tight tunnels on the Blue Ridge Parkway and my BSD never alerts me.

Sometimes BSD can really freak out for no reason. One time i was driving from Houston to Austin at like 3:00am (I wanted to be in the office in Austin by 7) and I was on a nearly deserted, dark, two lane highway (on 105 between Brenham and Navasota, if you're familiar with this neck of Texas). Anyway, the otherwise peaceful drive was interrupted by the stupid BSD going off. Here it is near pitch-black except for a full moon (and my headlights) and there's not another car in sight, and the BSD went off. Talk about feeling a little spooked- it scared the bejeebies out of me. This has happened maybe once or twice in the 70K I've owned the car.

Actually I thought it only warned if vehicles behind were coming up faster than my vehicle. Is that not true?

I believe it will also show vehicles that are just keeping up with you and are staying in your blind spot.

Would not be surprised if you saw the shear amount of retarded drivers around this area.
