  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ok so I've been looking at both the BTR Tune and the Magnaflow Cat Back for my 2011 4.6 they cost the same so I'm trying to decide which way to go. Which is the better bang for the buck? I know both would be nice, however I'm not looking to spend 2k right now.

Thanks for any input!

For me the sound of the car is important so I'd get the exhaust first if I was in your shoes. On my 2011 the exhaust was the first and only mod I did. I'd say get the tune down the road if you forsee yourself keeping the car for a while. I almost got the tune but traded the 2011 4.6 for a 2015 5.0 HTRAC

Sound isn't really as important to me as performance

Had a Magnaflow on my '11 4.6. Too much drone. Installed Dynomax VTs, which virtually eliminated drone. Never did a dyno test, but I did not notice a material power gain. Generally, one's seat of pants dyno needs at least a 10% increase to note a material gain.

Dyno tunes are a different matter. Most tuners do not mess with closed-loop settings, maintaining 14.7 fuel ratio for legality and emissions. They do change open-loop. When you "floor" the car the fuel injection computer goes to "open loop" (also on initial cold start), which is basically a dump of all available fuel injectors and fuel pump can push through the system. This is a "pig-rich" mixture, which can also save a motor on continuous wide open throttle by "cooling" intake. I registered about 10:1 on my 5.0. What tuners do is to lean this mixture down to make better power, like about 13:1.
If you really, really want a big bang for your buck consider nitrous.
Bear in mind always...."Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go."

Thanks for the info, I had a G35 with high flow cats and a borla cat back it sounded and ran great, but I don't want the Genny that loud just a bit louder then stock and if I were looking to put a bottle on something it wouldn't be a luxury car. I think I'm going to go with the BTR ECU Tune and a MSA axle back :)
