  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Burger Motorsports JB4 high performance tuner for Genesis vehicles

I spoke to that guy (forget his name) in person at a cars and coffee. He had a JB4 on his Stinger 2.and it was totalled. He said he loved it, it added a lot of power, but he never put it on a dyno to quantify the gains.

Again, this is good info and thank you for providing it, but it's not a substitute for actual numbers.
Don't know what to tell you. Terry offered any 2.0T owner to come down and test as well as a dyno last year and nobody seemed to take up the offer or were in that area.
So it's not like they didn't try!

Now that there are many more 2.0T cars in circulation they should offer again. I'd do it in a second but I am on the other side of the country.

I for one don't care cause I can feel it and that's all that matters to me.
At least they're not putting out bogus numbers like Race Chip.

I feel essentially the same; with no dyno plots from the company and very little info or 3rd party testing, it feels like a 2.0T owner buying the product is doing R&D testing more so than the purchase of a polished product. I know they are a reputable company with much success on other makes and models, but that somehow makes it worse. At the very least, I would think they would offer it at a discount to early adopters, or beta testers, in exchange for reviews and/or datalogs. Hell, even just to get more info out there. Some owners are surely likely to pay for a dyno after such an upgrade, and seeing those results out there on the interwebs is free advertisement. I've had my G70 2.0T Sport for nearly a year now and expected a bit more enthusiasm for this sort of setup from other MT... enthusiasts.

The Sonata and Optima guys have been using Lap3 Uncle Chip forever. The uptake of the 2.0T Stinger is very low. Most Genesis owners that are enthusiasts but the 3.3T and very few buy the 2.0T 6MT. Our only hope is to get the i30N and Veloster N guys to put pressure on BMS.
I signed up to their forums and participate sometimes. Lots of arrogant dudes there but most of them know their stuff.

Your location may not matter. It might be worth to ask @Terry @ BMS to see if he can reimburse a local dyno run after the JB4 install! Might be kinda cool if he's down with that.

Terry said he would be more than happy to help remote tune anyone who can get a dynojet Dyno done.

I recently got my oil changed on my 3.3T and they gave me a 2.0T for a loaner. I really like the engine and with the car being lighter, it's fun.

I bet the 2.0T would be really sweet with the JB4!

Finished installing the JB4 today. Used the eBay o2 sensor extensions. I ended up soldering mine, mostly just because I like to solder. Haha.

Isolated the wire for pin #1. It's a yellow wire on this specific set, evidently. Stripped a section in the middle for attaching an extension.

Soldering flux makes things much easier.

I used silver bearing solder. I like the really thin stuff, the wires soak it up very nicely, and it's easy to control and not overdo it.

Wrapped. Thin amount of flux. Ready to solder.

Finished soldering. Nice and strong, no chance of losing the connection.

Taped.

Cleaned up the sleeves and wrapped everything in electric tape, ready to install.

I took my time securing the wiring with zip ties so that everything was nice and stable, and flows somewhat well with the stock engine harness.

And here it is with the engine cover back on. Not too bad.

I logged a couple runs, comparing map0 to map1, and it looks like the fuel wires/O2 extensions are working perfectly.

Stock (map0) shows AFRs around 10.4:1 during WOT. Map1 is showing it consistently at 11.7:1

Nice.

^^^ Damn, that is NICE! Really clean job. How does Map 1 feel?

Only did a couple pulls. It feels stronger, but I have a couple issues. 1) I haven't put in the new spark plugs. 2) it was really hot and after doing several runs on map0 my AIT's we're pretty dang high.
Even so - it feels stronger. Not a huge difference, but noticeable. Instead of a rush of thrust, it now feels more firm and serious... If that makes any sense... Haha.

Gonna put in my new spark plugs tonight. I might make a video of the quick plug install.

Well, tried to make a video of the spark plug swap (quick method) and failed. My camera was angled wrong the whole time, so you can't really even see what I'm doing. Sorry!!

I can say this: the most difficult part is removing the middle ignition coil on the passenger's side bank. It took me a while to work it out and I busted up my fingers a little bit. It took me about 1.5 hrs to do it all - removal and reinstall - would've been quicker if I still had a garage!!

I ended up using OEM spark plugs, and trimmed the ground electrode a little bit, and gapped them to 0.028"

Will drive around a bit more tomorrow and get a better feel for the new horsepower.

OEM is HR7 right?
I think only Map1 is safe on that for prolonged use.

Yup, keeping it in map1 for the time being. I originally was planning on using water injection to cool down the CC, keeping the stock HR plugs in the sweet spot, but evidently the JB4 is unable to do *just* water, it must be water/methanol. That said, I'll probably keep it in map 1 until the tuning issues and transmission issues are figured out with the Pure Turbo upgrade. When I get those, I'll probably switch to the Denso's.

Map1 power increase is nice. You feel it most right when the turbos spool, it hits harder than before, and continues with more power throughout the rev range. Obviously more aggressive maps (ie 2+) make a more significant difference, but I am planning on using bigger turbos in the future, so I don't care that much about spending money on octane boosters or water/meth (nevermind the fact that meth thins oil so badly that it slowly damages your engine over time).

Intake will be coming in next week. After that will be focusing on exhaust, then hopefully, sooner than later, I'll decide on an intercooler solution after Mishimoto comes out with their kit.

Great job, Toddasaurus! And glad that you were able to see that wire #1 was yellow instead of red. I had to re-solder my connection because I failed to check the color of wire #1 on my ebay set of connectors.

Then I had to find why I got a Check Engine light. Turned out one set of wires had wire 1 correct at one end, but twisted to position 3 on the other end. Used a pin removal tool to remove the pins for wires 1 and 3 and swapped them so they were true pass-thru. No more issues!

If anyone else buys the eBay connectors, double check BOTH ends of the harness by plugging them into each other and make sure the wires are the same color in the same positions.

Curious why you don't use Map 2? According to Terry@Burger - 91 Octane works fine on Map 2 and as he says, Map 1 is weak sauce :grinlaugh:

I've been thinking the same thing. I remember reading some posts from him stating that map2 is fine on premium pump gas. Though, officially the JB4 advertisements state that map1 is for 91 octane, and map2 is for 93 octane.

In my state premium is 92 octane. I may have to play around with map2, log a few runs, and see if the ECU is pulling any timing or not.
