  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How long have you been running Map2? Did give enough time for the ECU to adapt?
@Beefer should be able to tell you how long it takes before your car actually fully adapts to pump gas.
For about 100 miles about four hours several starts and stops. I am running the Denso plugs gapped at .023 along with a fuel wires

Nice.
We don’t have 93 octane here. Max is 91 and it seems to do ok.
Your thoughts?

Hate to tell you...but to fully take advantage of Map 2...you need to run 93.

You can raise your octane with E85 fuel or booster, etc.

You could get away with exceptionally excellent 91 fuel...but good luck with finding that.

Terry himself runs map 2 on 91 octane without issue. He has a post comparing 91 to 93 and said the 91 may have run even better than 93...

I only use Costco gas top tier. Think the graph looks ok? Nothing standing out to you?

It’s not whether or not it can run on 91 Octane, it is just that you will get more power out of Map2 on 93+ Octane.
And the quality of 91 and 93 can vary so much. Even shitty quality 93 would be as good if not better than a good 91.
The 2.0T can run Map2 on 91 Octane no problem.

It's true that you should get more power out of 93 but it's certainly not always the case. Like I said above, Terry Burger himself runs map 2 with 91 and when compared to 93 he felt the particular 91 he was running may have performed better.

That’s cause his city only has one gas station with 93. And that was early days. Pretty sure he is running WMI, Boostane, E30, and what not to get the best out of it.

I think you should log a couple more runs. In fact, I think the best way to go is to stay in 3rd gear - drive @ ~1500 rpm, then quickly hit the gas pedal to the notch, right before the kickdown clicker. Once you reach about 3.5k-4k rpms, then push the gas pedal passed the clicker all the way up to redline. Once you redline it, let off the gas and slow down to a safe place where you can save the log. Repeat this 2-3 times and post those logs.

I hope that makes sense. This way you get more detail in the log. I will do the same here shortly.

Edit: the only thing that concerns me is this dip, circled... It might be fine and normal, but the boost looks relatively stable while ignition is dropping.

Doing more details logs of just 3rd gear pulls will give us more info.

Todd. Just wondering where you can get up to those speeds? i5 is more or less a parking lot and the Portland PoPo 👮‍♀️ are not that nice.

Here 85 on the freeway and DPS Highway Patrol will pass you and not blink an eye.

Weird shit. I'm now hearing some kind of clacking sound from the back.

I've recorded it. You can hear it loudly between 20 seconds to 30.

Just checked. No clacking sound on Map 0. I wonder if this is some kind of misfire.

Post it on the N54Tech site and ask Terry.
Is it back by the gas tank?

I have a nice little country back road that allows me to see far ahead in both directions. Also relatively quiet, especially at certain times during the day/evening.

I would never drive that fast on I-5. Too much traffic at all times.

No clue what that is.

Post some logs at N54 Tech, and here! (Though we would only be making educated guesses, Terry, on the other hand, knows his stuff when it comes to tuning these engines).

People are probably going to call me names, but I'm going to say it. The G70 Manual transmission 2.0t is trash. I test drove a friend of mine who installed a JB4 on his G70 2.0T Automatic and the car feels very different on MAP 2. It feels fast and smooth. For some reason, the manual transmission computer is limiting power somehow. The whole gearing is out of wack. Call me a little b**** but I'm not really enjoying that car. I should have bought the 3.3 or the 2.0t in automatic.

I also think I'm just a guy that loves cars that are very driver-focused. I was going to buy a used Alfa Romeo 4C but I went ahead and bought a G70 because it's more practical and it was offered in a manual transmission. Completely my mistake, I did not do my homework. I never got used to this manual transmission. I'll go ahead and see what I can get for my car and I'll buy a 4C instead.

That's too bad.. Maybe the dealer would work with you getting into a 3.3T?

Too bad about the 6MT. Maybe it feels that way cause it was not purpose built for the G70.
Anyway did you figure out what that noise was?
Is it the high pressure fuel pump?

That's exactly what it was. It was the fuel pump. For the 6MT, it's really a shame really. It's sad because I really love the car overall. I heard the 6 speed is just the tranny for the Genesis Coupe. This tranny has a bad reputation.
