  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

so my car is very new, and i notice sometimes when i get out of the car there is a burning plastic type of smell. sort of chemical in nature, not really like something is on fire. it seems to be coming from the tires and/or hood. i do drive very fast in sport mode, which is perhaps not advisable on a new car. my question is: is this normal and will go away shortly (and how soon?) thanks!

Mine smelled like that when it was new, mostly coming from the undercarriage. It eventually goes away. I kinda miss it and didn't realize it was gone until you reminded me right now.

this is normal - It will go away in time. I think its a coating they spray underneath the car that smells as it is heated.

I am sure there is a much more technical answer than that but I wouldn't be worried.

Nothing new for all new cars - they are factory treated with rust inhibitors on the engine block and other parts (ex. cosomline). Goes away after a while.

thanks. it's been a long time since i had a brand new car. i do remember that happening before. i figured it was probably something like that, but i just wanted to hear it from someone else.
