Buying a 2009 vs 2010

so ... just wanted to throw something out there: I am looking at a 2.6k miles Tech Pkg V8 from 2009 for just over $30k ... how low do you guys see the new 2010 being sold now for --- I see a V6 Tech at a local dealer that's been seating there since March2010

I went through the same analysis, finally pulled the trigger last week on a 2009 4.6 w/tech, I paid $32K and it had 24K miles. Came close to going new on a 2010 3.8 w/prem and nav at about the same price but became convinced the value was there on the 4.6. I live in Cincinnati but drove to Indianapolis as dealers here did not seem as willing to negotiate on new (many would not honor the competitive coupon) and the inventory of used was limited. If the 4.6 has what you are looking for as far as colors and tech or no tech, you should jump at that deal. Plus, I was able to get financing around 2.5% (on a used car).

That 2009 4.6 with Tech, 2.6k miles, for "just over $30k" sounds good. I've been looking within a couple hundred miles of me, and I found one for $32.9k and others in the mid 30's, but none with that low milage.

Keep in mind that the 4.6 not only has a more powerfull engine, but also has better brakes, and other things that the 3.8 does not have. HOWEVER, Also keep in mind that the 10 year 100k warranty is only on new cars. Used is lower.

Also for some reason, when I check the prices nationwide, I find that pre-owned Genesis' sell for less in Florida than in other States. No idea why.
Even new, if purchased in large cities, (such as Orlando) where there are a number of dealers in the area, prices are lower than if being purchased in small towns where there is only one dealer close by. I purchased mine in Orlando because the closest dealer to me in Leesburg would not budge off his $5000 "bump up sticker". I saved $6000 ($1000 off MSRP and $5000 off the bump up sticker). (Remember I got mine when the Genesis was something brand new to the market). I've talked with others who purchased in Orlando from various dealers, and they all got good deals.

An '09 4.6 w/tech with under 10K miles for under $34K from a dealer is a pretty good deal. At $31K, you'd be getting it for just about the real trade value - meaning the previous owner ate almost all of the depreciation over the first two years. As far as retained value goes, that's better than you would normally do buying a new vehicle, especially one that is a model year old, as a 2010 is.

2010 and 2011 models do have adaptive cruise control and electronic parking brake. Very nice features if you ask me.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I did some research and settled with a 09 V-6 that had 1200 miles on it, never been titled so considered NEW. I got it for just over 27k. These cars are really holding their resale value. I have had no real issues with the car exept the speedo being off by 6 mph. In my opinion the V-6 has plenty of go juice and really it doesn't matter whether its a V-6 or V-8 / 09 or 10 model they are all great cars. Hyundai Rocks!

alright - new Genesis owner it is. Jumped on the amazing deal, according to KBB I paid less than the trade-in value.

Seems like, if you got it for $27K, they aren't holding their resale value as great as they could. I am a bit suspicious of KBB's numbers. When I stick my '09, with 7k miles, in their calculator, they say the private party value is $30K and a retail value of almost $33K which is more than I paid for mine new. NADA puts the "clean" retail value at $29.5K, which seems more realistic. Edmunds, likewise, is lower, at about $30.5K.

Does sound like you got a real good deal though...especially if you got a new car warranty with it.

It is interesting to note the trade-in value runs from $23-$25K for a clean car, so dealer should be able to get some healthy profit, even at $27K.

Kermit....Way to go!! Your car looks well about as awsome as mine!! !

If your anything like me you will find any and every excuse to go for a ride or drive!!.......We used to take the SUV everytime the whole family went out but not anymore. My wife insists we take MY Genny instead of her SUV. She hates cars but I think she is falling or has fallen for mine!!

Disaster... I hear what your saying considering mine is NEW and I got the full warranty I'm sure I got a pretty good deal too. They wanted close to 33k for it but because it was a 09 I talked them down. They also gave me a sack of $$ for my 06 Sonata so I ended up really happy in the end. I did check the local car auctions here and the 09 Genny's with 10k or less miles (used cars) were going for 24-27K, ( the few they have seen anyway).
I agree there is always lots of room for dealers and their profit though!

My last few trades for new, I talked to my co-worker/friend who was a service manager at a local dealership before he came to work for us. He says that KBB is meaningless for all but private-party sales. Dealers use the NADA book only, as do banks and credit unions.

I still check KBB before going in to talk a trade, as KBB and the NADA guide seem to be within 5% of each other.

In this part of the country dealers use the dreaded "Black Book" which the public doesn't have access to. Credit Unions and Banks use NADA. Beyond that Blue Book and KBB are useless for trade in values.
