If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I am thinking about buying a used 2023 g90 3.5T from a non Hyundai/Genesis dealership with 32k miles and no CPO. From what I’ve read, only the bumper to bumper 5 year/60k miles warranty will transfer over. The 10 year power train warranty only transfers if the car is CPO. Looking at the Carfax, there’s still around two years left on the bumper to bumper warranty. Wondering if it’s a good idea to buy it without CPO or is CPO a must have because of the 10 year power train warranty. Thoughts?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
If you cannot get a CPO unit through a dealer then you are going to want to be sure to purchase a 3rd party extended warranty - especially as just about everything on this car is ungodly expensive.

If you can - consider purchasing a car through Carmax. Their warranties cost a few bucks more but are extremely flexible and gracious - for lack of a better term. You will have no problem getting things fixed or approved to be fixed through them.

If not getting CPO or Carmax, then I would only be looking at the following 3rd party companies - which you can contact DIRECTLY - do not buy it through the dealer as they charge huge markups (pure profit for teh dealer):

Endurance (though I have read reports on a few forums that they are getting tougher to get approvals from)
Fidelity
Zurich (pricey but approves everything)
Route 66

Any of the other brands - especially Car Shield, Auto Shield, Premier Auto, Assurant, Carchex - avoid them all. They will take your money and automatically deny any claim and make you fight tooth and nail for every penny.

I have done quite a bit of research on aftermarket warranties (when my used GV80 was approaching 60k miles). I ended up going with AutoPom out of SoCal (sells/warrants nationally) due to superior claims and customer service reviews, and competent non-pushy agents. I got a 5/60 exclusionary policy with hightech addon (closest combo to OEM/CPO) for $117 per month transferrable and cancellable at any time. Regardless of who you go with an exclusionary with hightech is the only way to cover screens, sensors, window motors, etc. -- things most likely to go out. You can wait until a couple of months before the original OEM coverage expires to see how much you like the car and plan to keep it, but definitely buy BEFORE 5yr/60k to get the best rates (from any insurer). AutoPom has sold a number of aftermarket policies to Genesis owners. If you do call them for a quote, ask for Monique--she's great. I think your decision boils down to a couple of things--is there a reliable Genesis dealer near you? (Leans toward CPO). How much less is the non-CPO car over a CPO, and does the cost savings cover an add-on warranty? A CPO may require Genesis dealer only servicing and some dealers also sell 3rd party warranties (ie non-Genesis) at pretty big markups. If the one you are looking at is priced too close to a CPO, hit the nonCPO dealer up for an add-on exclusionary policy thrown in (or at least no more than their own dealer cost). I have also seen a No. Carolina Genesis dealer adverstise on the FB to sell the Genesis OEM warranties at a substantial discount no matter where you live. Good luck!

In addition to the 10/100 power train coverage, I believe the CPO adds an additional 12 months to whatever base warranty is left at the time of purchase plus the full suite of connected services. Someone correct me if I’m incorrect.

Thanks for the detailed response.

I will be buying the car from Carmax. From my research, Carmax Maxcare is now serviced by 3rd party warranty services including Fidelity. I will ask for confirmation of this from Carmax when I go in for the test drive.

I keep reading good things about Fidelity on forums. I also keep reading that it’s better to buy warranty directly rather than at the dealership. However, Fidelity’s website it says that warranty can only be bought through their partners and not directly.

I am leaning towards not buying the extended warranty right now since the car still has 2 years of bumper to bumper warranty left. At which point I will either just sell the car or buy 3rd party warranty, depending on how I feel about the car at that point

Take the money and put it in a Chase savings account, and then hook that up to self directed JP Morgan investment account and buy NVIDiA, Apple Amazon etc. essentially just make a Health Savings Account for your car that’s connected to the stock market. If you have to use it who cares if not it keeps growing while you put in your monthly insurance payment.

My HSA grew pretty quickly with the equivalent of what you guys are talking about for after market warranty. HSA for a car would have a repair or two in it in no time.

$7000 for an extended warranty if you go the distance is nuts - even on this car.

A CPO may require Genesis dealer only servicing

This is not at all the case. All regularly scheduled maintenance can be performed by any certified shop. Keep the receipts. Warranty work, on the otherhand - will need to be done at a Genny dealer, unless GCC authorizes another shop to do the work when you open the case.

Good to hear - you can buy with confidence then.

That's a recent development, then... and unfortunate. Anyone who sells it is going to skyrocket the price.

CM wont let you buy the warranty later. It would be a real waste & shame to only hold on to the car for 2 years, too... in my opinion. :( It is also cheaper to buy any extended at the time of purchase than it is miles and years later when it is more prone to issue.

That AI driven bubble will be popping - likely within 6-12 months.

That actually is a decent idea - so long as the market performs & sustains it. It's a risk, however - we've been riding a bubble (not a wave) for too long already.... it's just going to take one thing to flip over the apple cart - and then just like in 2009 everyone is gonna lose their ass.

Srobak--The $117/month is only for 30 months then fully paid for 5/60.

I said nothing about maintenance. As you confirm, extended CPO "warranty" work needs to be done at the dealer--so why, quoting you, "this is not at all the case?" Not sure what message you are trying to convey and nothing I said about warranties was inaccurate.
