In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. i have been thinking of getting the v6 or v8.

here are my questions but first my options

1) have been offered a 2009 v6 new all tech packages 10 miles ,for $ 34,885.

2) also another one 2009 new with all options again for $ 35,000.

3) a new 2010 for $38,000.

thus i can safe $ 3,000 on a 09 over a 10 .

i think that based on all the changes made it may not be worth the savings

right ? what do you think ?

$ 3,000 is not much if i am gaining more in the 2010 mod changes /

now, my questions are .

--------- what mpg are you guys getting on the v6 vs v8 ??

------how reliable has the car been and what is the mileage you have ??

-----how much did you pay for the 10/ 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.---$____.__

the way i look at this ,givien the 10/100 warranty it is bettter to buy this car than to lease because the lease is approx $ 24,000 at the end of 36 months and you have no car.

with the 10/100 k warranty you are covered for 10 years ,100k 's and thus if i pay up front say $ 41,000, all included ,and i divide this by say 8 years when i will probaly reach the 100k then the actual cost per year breaks down to $5,125 per year and if i do sell it then i may get say $ 6,000 for it thus reducing the actual per year cost to say 4.5 per year .

as compared to say a beemer or mb this car requires only oil changes for 100k's .i am way ahead of the game after 10 years if i am still around by then .

now what i have to decide is -------

do i go for an 09 and save an extra $3,000 bringing the price per year down to $ 4,000 per year

or a 2010 ?

are you guys satisfied with the genesis ??

my other cars are 550 spyder ,fx35,vw gti 2009,and other .

so i am looking for a good handling ,comfortable car to replace a 2000 saab aero 9.5 which has been great but is now begining to cost money in repairs such as oil leaks and who knows what next...at 125,000 miles .and i do not want to break down during a trip to florida which is 1,400 miles each way.

therefore i mnow looking for replacement

thank you for your thoughts to help me make a decision

Welcome to the board, ffb13!

You ask many great questions. I'll answer the ones I can speak to.

1.) My family really enjoys our ride (see my sig below for details). We would not trade it in for anything that is available right now in the market (that is priced comparably). Overall, it is a great car IMO.

2.) Personally, I would not shell out an extra $3k for the 2010 over the 2009. If the differences are worth it to you in your mind, though, absolutely go for it -- it's certainly not worth regretting later.

3.) When comparing the V6 with the V8 there are a number of things to consider. The V8 is heavier, decreasing average fuel economy. It also has larger ("better") brakes, which make up for the added weight over the V6. It also comes with other features, including limited slip differential, some aesthetic touches, larger wheels, etc.

To speak more specifically to the mpg debate, here's what I've gathered from talking to and reading people's experiences:

- the V6 usually gets 2-6 more mpg than the V8 at low speeds (<50 mph)
- fuel economy seems to even out around 70 mph between the two engines
- there may be a slight fuel economy advantage for the V8 in the 70-85 mph range (of 0-2 mpg); by all accounts, the two vehicles seem to get extremely similar fuel economy figures at highway speeds
- on average, with mixed driving, the V6 seems to get about 2 or 3 mpg better than the V8 with real world driving (as the EPA estimates might suggest would be the case).

The point being... the V8 is absolutely less economical than the V6 for in-town driving, while the two engines are very similar for freeway cruises. Take into account your type of driving, style of driving, and needs from a vehicle when making this decision.

"so i am looking for a good handling ,comfortable car"

In this case, you're in exactly the right place! In the opinion of my family, the Genesis handles very well and practically exudes comfort (especially considering the price). Other than those who are put off by the "unevenness" of the suspension (something I recommend doing multiple test drives for yourself because of), reports are near-unanimous that the comfort level provided by the Genesis is simply top notch.

Best of luck in your continued car shopping endeavor. Enjoy it!

I've heard of cases where the wife finds the V8 too much to handle.

Hi, welcome to the site!

Regarding V6 vs V8, there's a post here where people discuss their opinions on this, so try and read that if you can - lots of info to help you out. Personally, I went with the V6 for a few reasons - its 200 lb lighter and it has more aggressive gearing, so it feels peppier than the V8. It cost slightly less, but I got a V6 with the Premium Plus package, so I got everything I wanted and nothing I didn't a la the tech package (I don't buy cars with built in Nav - for me its overpriced and gets outdated too quickly vs a handheld unit).

I've driven an 09 and a 10 Genesis, and I couldn't tell any difference in the ride, and the other minor changes weren't significant imo. I think the biggest change is the increase in price, so I'd save the money and get the less expensive car. Depreciation on this car is still up in the air, so if you're looking to keep the car for a short period (3-5 yrs or less) you might as well save as much money up front as you can.

The car rides similar to a BMW or Infiniti, so if you fall into the camp that likes that kind of ride, you should be happy. As for an aftermarket warranty, I'd put off that purchase until you are nearing the end of your factory warranty period - save the money - maybe you won't keep the Genesis that long, and if you do, the warranty won't cost any more.

For the money, nothing can touch the Genesis in terms of power, luxury, size, and warranty. Its a stand out car for the complete package it offers. So far, 3 month, 8k mi, 6 road trips, and zero problems on mine, and i love it.

$34.8k for a V6/Tech is a good price - you should be able to get an even $34k offer. Tech is "all options" so if the other one is $35k, you should be able to get $1k off it. Also, demand you get the trunk liner, cargo net, and iPod cable with the car!

thank you all for the replies .they are very appreciated and yes Sandy when my wife drove it,the v8, she felt that the car got away from her .she is used to the saab 9.5 aero which has more linear responses and does not get out of hand until the turbo kicks in.
obct --then k you for the analysis of mpg . i really appreciate this info to make my decision .

sayantsi ,i think that you are quickly convincing me to go with the 09 and save extra monies ,thou not much it helps.

and before this post i went out and drove the new m35 awd ,but it did not have the sports package so i like it and did not .on a one to one basis the m35 at $ 55.0 discounted to 52 is a big savings compared to the $ 34 for the 09

Just drive an 09 and a 10 so you can really compare the two, but I think either year will be a good car.

I think if you're planning to keep this new car for 10 years, get the 2009. Selling a 2009 or 2010 in 2020 will be a $500 difference. You know what those financial experts on CNBC always preach. Take the $3000 and put it in something that gives you 8% and the diffference is even larger. :)

I think the M35 is a really nice car. Infiniti dealers are having to discount the heck out of them to move them off the lots because everyone is waiting for the refreshed 2011. Just say to the Infiniti dealer, "I think I'll just go with a Genesis to save some money."
