  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

CAI update for 5.0 & Rspec owners

And thanks for the video and all the info. Great stuff. I guess I need to pull the ESC fuse, and see how that works. And upload the video. Although, with the Michelin tires, may slip too much.

Another technique off the line that seems to work for me.. Half throttle at the jump, then go the rest of the way. Seems to fool the nanny a bit.

I think I may have a slight edge with the 18" wheels on acceleration with my 5.0 verses the 19"s on the R. Supposition. But less rolling mass and easy to rotate compared to 19-20".

DRS thanks for analyzing my vids. I did one today with the Magnaflow. I have to convert it to upload it.

I plan two more vids: with cat deletes and with the ESC fuse pull technique. That will be the Mac daddy run: cai, exhaust, cat delete, ESC defeat. I can't think of anything else to do to make it boogie any faster. This new vid with Magnaflow is a 0-100 run

here's a vid with CAI, and Magnaflow.

Maybe DRS can compare to the other vids, he is the official timer

PS its about 90F here

Hopefully nanny delete and cat delete after the weekend.

I notice it takes nearly a second between when I say go/press the pedal for the speedo to move. perhaps that gizmo called the sprint booster would help this lag??? also the car takes forever to get to 20mph then it really hauls. it was pulling quite stronly past 100-105mph like it had plenty of gallop left in it. I on the other hand was running out of nerve.

(performed on a closed track - do not try this at home or on a public road )

Where's the video?

Hold your horses !!! Wouldn't upload directly to forum. Security issue. Uploading to you tube as I type this....

Nice. Next time set the display to instant fuel economy. :)

From the time the engine and speedo moved, not the delay when punched, to 60 was still 5.5-5.65. Slower. To 80 8.35, to 100, 12.3-12.6.

I do not see increase from sound, I appears the heat or something slowed it down from the other day.

It did seem to bog down a bit more at the beginning. Could have been the computer. Unless you pull the ESC fuse, it is always running.

Adding the .75 to one second delay (from the time someone begins to hit the throttle, hits the stop) for the nanny delay, really slows things down.

You might try, if it will allow you, to preload the tranny. Go half or full throttle while brakes are on and then release. A old trick back in the muscle car days. May not work with nanny programming. Might cure the bog and launch the car with wheels spinning, but accelerating faster. Those 19" wheels are not the best for pure acceleration all the way through. And even bigger problem sap power at the beginning from a stop.

Real Dragsters and those who want a safe car on the street, demand instant throttle response. This drive by wire system sucks at that. By design or flaw. Who knows.

Thank goodness when most of us are asked for a challenge, we are already moving. Between the throttle and the up to 25-30mph sluggishness, we lose close to 2 seconds off trap times across the board. That is a bunch.

Thanks! Planning on firing the nanny this weekend.

Find a real CAI that has a sealed box with extension through the hole in front that gets you real outside cool air. And the enclosure box and pipe to the intake should be insulated.

Unless you want to run down the road with your hood taken off, the underwood temps will hurt the density of the air from the system coming in. It makes a difference. Especially on warm days.

Anyone from Midwest with a R-Spec? And a HAI (the real name for the "cold air intake" should be "hot air intake) installed, but the rest stock? I would like to compare my bone stock 5.0 non R-spec with 18" wheels in acceleration. And I am running Michelins (not sticky). Would like to see how rolling starts, and lockdown runs from 20-30-40-50 to high speed chart between the two. And also see how the 1/4-1/2 mile goes. I am not claiming any superiority here.. Just want to have some real world comparisons.

When I removed my air cleaner assembly I couldn't as ascertain where the cold air passed through the front of the car. The intake box has a smaller inlet off the over-the-radiator air scoop but the main intake is a short Curved pipe turning upward. I don t see a clear path for outside air to get there :(

The flap with the magnet on it in the bottom of the airbox has a tube running into it coming from the front of the car. There is your chance to get maximum cold air into the intake.

I am planning to remove that flap cover, gut the stock box with a dremel and simply attach a 90 elbow with a cone filter to the opening that the intake pipe attaches to on the stock airbox cover. In the end no one will ever know I am running a modified intake. You'd only ever see the cone filter if you opened the stock airbox cover.

Now there is an idea. And maybe someone could take the stock box and run a big insulated pipe directly to the MAF?

Got my doubts:
After CAI, Magnaflow, cat deletes.

None of these seemed to have improved my 0-60 or even 0-100 times.

Wondering now if it's worth the effort and the extra noise and potential warranty issues. Part of me wants the car back the way it was... At least it was stealthy

Agreed. I enjoy my silent acceleration. If it helped I am all in with the extra noise. Otherwise whoosh on by the competition.

I would imagine a full catback would be best, if you are talking about cutouts. IMO.

Hmmmm. Sounds like another candidate for my electronic exhaust cut outs. ;)
"Full stock quiet - medium sound - full open loud".

I know exactly what you are saying. And so do a few others. Especially after the droning and constant loud Magnaflow starts to wear on you.

Would consider it but in PA they are illegal. I'm sure it's the case in a lot of states.

In Pennsylvania, vehicles are required to be equipped with mufflers. Exhaust cutouts and bypasses are not allowed to be installed. The tailpipe must exit outside of the vehicles bodyline.

Technically our RSpec tailpipes exit inside the bodyline. :)
