If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday, I went in for my first oil change.
While I was there, I decided to let them check the alignment since the steering wheel was a little off-center and the car felt slightly pulling to the left on some occasions.

First thing I noticed when I went to pick up my car, the rear camber was far less aggressive than before.
I don't know if you guys noticed it, but our Gennys come with some VERY aggressive rear camber from the factory.

I told the service manager about the rear camber being less aggressive than before, and he told me that that's because of the toe adjustments they did, not because they adjusted the camber.
He stated that there's no camber adjustments on the Genesis, and that it's all toe-dependent.

I know some vehicles don't have the adjustability at all, but was just wondering since the suspension design is so sophisticated on our cars, I figured there might be one.

I haven't had a chance to take off the wheels and have a look at it..
Does anyone know if it's there or not?

Thanks,

Dan

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The old suspension adjustment rule is "Adjust in order, camber, than caster, then toe." This is because that is the order they have the least effect on the previous one. Based on this I wouldn't expect toe to have a huge effect on camber.

By the way, when I sighted down our Genesis's rear tires I noticed quite a bit more toe on the right one than the left one. I'm not sure what the tolerance, but I would not be surprised to find it out of spec.

Yes, you can adjust front and rear camber. How do I know? First the Genesis manual specifies factory, non-neutral camber adjustments for both the front and rear (as well as non-neutral toe). Secondly, after installing rims that were wider and were offset more than the OEM rims, I had my camber and toe tweaked on all four wheels.

Thanks guys.
So basically, the service manager was misinformed I guess.
BTW, the steering wheel was offcenter to the right when brought her in, and now it's to the left. Ugh.

When you get your alignment, the steering wheel is supposed to be locked in the center position as not to be affected by any adjustments being made.

I know that alignment shops straighten the steering wheel before starting any adjustments, and obviously they did a poor job doing that.

By "locked in", did you mean steering wheel lock?
If so, I didn't know about that step.
Our Genesis automatically locks the steering wheel once the ignition is off and the door is open anyway.

Hey...at least they were able to get you on a machine...HA!

I went yesterday for a 4-wheel align and they did not even have the specs loaded into the machine. They had to call a programmer (machine specific) to load the tolerances. Anywho, they said they would call when they are ready.

Hmmmm...so am I going to be the first alignment job for them...if so, you'd better believe I will be standing right beside them!

Wow, almost 2 years since the release of the Genesis and they still didn't have their database updated?
I would take it to another shop if I were you.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
Is your steering wheel straight btw?

It's a bar (tool) that the alignment tech uses to keep the steering wheel in the centered position.

Hey Dan!

Well the original dealership that I bought the car from closed its doors about a month after my purchase. However, a new owner opened the dealership back up about 3 weeks ago.

They did hire back the same mechanics that were there...which is good because we have a great relationship!

According to the mechanics, the machine is fairly new as well and the Genesis specs have yet to be loaded on the database...mainly because I am one of a handful of Genesis owners in the area and none of us have been by for an alignment.

My wheel is straight but I constantly have to hold it with my left hand to keep from veering to the right. Its not that bad...but over a long trip, my left arm gets pretty tired. I also have new shoes on and that is my reason for the alignment.

Anywho, I will be right there with them in the shop! (they let me because I own a Genesis and they love to hear my stories...HA)

I will definitely give an update.

The Specifications for all the 09 Hyundai's, including the Genesis is in Hyundai's TSB # 08-SS-008. Note that the it shows specs for the front wheels for Castor, Camber and Toe, but for the rear wheels, no Castor. Only Camber and Toe. Check it out in the TSB section of this BB.

Three or four thousand miles ago, I noticed that my front tires were starting to "Feather" at the edges, so I had them rotated and had a four wheel alignment done at Orlando Hyundai. Their alignment machine has specs already in it. (don't know if its the same specs as TSB 08-SS-008 or not).

So far, so good.

Hey Bob.

Before I left the dealership, the shop manager pulled up the TSB for the specs and printed them out for the programmer dude.

He did say that on one measurement listed in the TSB was equivalent to 18-wheelers...He was shocked and said he could wait to figure that one out.

I remember the number was 70.4 or something of that nature.

As you can tell, I dont know too much about alignment stuff. Hopefully I will learn here in the next few days!:)

UPDATE:
Well, the off-center steering wheel bothered me every time I drove her, so I brought her in for the second time today.
As TJPark suggested, I brought a box of Krispy Kreme for the service manager and technicians(I sensed the obvious annoyance of the service manager when I called in to schedule another appointment).

They threw it on the rack to double check the alignment and after a couple of hours, steering wheel is dead straight now! :)
Amazing what a dozen of original glazed can do. :)
