Hi all,

I have a 2013 Genesis Sedan 3.8 and I've recently been told that camber cannot be adjusted in the front. The camber is off alignment and my tires are wearing out quickly on the inside. I've searched and read quite a bit on this topic but I haven't seen any real solution. Is there anything I can do other than switch out the tires every 30k miles? I feel like that is a not a solution.

Please advise.

Hyundai says replace suspension parts until you find out which ones are causing the promblem. A big help, right? They pretty much say the only way it can be out of camber/caster is if you have accident damage!

There are camber bolt kits available that supposedly will allow adjustment, and a shim that goes on the hub that can help. I can't vouch for either. The cam bolts are provided with the Genesis coupe.

One owner has had an independent garage do all kings of stuff to get his in spec.

It has never been in an accident but it bottomed out really hard one time in a pot hole, but there was no visible damage and the vehicle drove properly. I've never had any trouble with it until this alignment issue.

Can these camber bolts be used with the Genesis Sedan? Has anyone tried them?

Your car, my car, and a lot of other cars I have seen/driven/owned have front camber that is out of spec and not factory adjustable. The inside of your tires are wearing because of your toe angle. I just replaced my tires not too long ago and after 30k'ish miles they were all worn flat. I have been personally involved and got my hands dirty with my last 3 alignments. (Rigid collars and two sets of tires) My front camber has never been in factory spec. Everything else is within 0.01 degree of factory spec. In my experiences toe and thrust angle are the two most important aspects to tire wear.

Yup
After installing my coils, the camber so off. Nothing you can do really. :)

Was a user @pure_kdm who was going to get custom adjustable plate/links made for him by T-Demand. First to metal widebody on the BH. Not sure if he ever did get them but it would be around 3-4 grand. Same front suspension as a LS460 and others, no simple bolt on adjustment for the front. Rears you have the eccentric bolt but it only does so much.

H I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 and had an alignment done on my car. After the alignment was completed I was told that all that could be done was to adjust the Toe in and Toe out on this car. I did some research and found out that there a camber bolts and a tool to adjust the camber on my car. I went back to the Hyundai dealer and explained that camber can be adjusted to spec by adjusting the suspension bolts on my car. I then set up an appointment to have the car looked at again, and low and behold, the technician loosened the suspension bolts, readjusted the bolts on the suspension and the camber was back in within specs. Hope this helps

Which suspension bolts did he adjust? Was it the strut top plate bolts?

Can you please elaborate on the suspension bolt adjustment you are describing? Everything else I’ve read suggests there is no factory front camber adjustment but you seem to be saying this isn’t the case? Maybe you can link to where you turned up research on the camber bolts and special tool you mentioned?

the camber bolts for genesis coupes will not work on sedans as they have 2 completely different front suspension set ups. the coupes use a macpherson strut which can use camber bolts where the strut mounts to the knuckle and gives you adjustment. The sedans use what is basically a double wishbone so adjusting the strut wont effect the alignment, it has to be adjusted at the control arms

double wishbone
Double ball joint actually. To make it adjustable you'd need adjustable control arms or ball joints. Usually thats done with threaded rod tubular control arms or something.

Here's some examples of what it would look like:

Thanks for the added info guys. When g_593593 mentioned 2015 Genesis 5.0 I didn’t realize he was talking coupe. Did think that was an odd revelation as I watched savagegeese YouTube video (great car channel btw if you aren’t familiar) on Genesis a while back and recalled their under car segment and discussing the lack of front camber adjustments as a shortcoming of the platform. SG is pretty thorough about suspension setups so was especially surprised to hear something different here.

Double ball joint actually

the technical name is 5 link front suspension, audi uses a very similar set up but it's basically a more complex double wishbone. but you are correct that the control arms will need to be adjustable on one end or another. And being a 5 link that means at minimum both top links/arms will need to be adjustable to do it properly

Thank you everyone for your input and information. Has anyone seen or tried these camber shims?

So I have a 2012 3.8 that pulls a little to the right and the steering wheel is off center to the right as well. Am I SOL on having this taken care of with an alignment?

The steering wheel being off should be an issue of toe being out of spec. A lot of people mistake their wheel being off for a pull so just want to verify. If you take your hands off of the wheel on a straight level road does the wheel turn to the right on it's own? If so your camber/caster may be off as well. A difference more than 0.5 side to side will cause a pull.

Going straight down a level road the wheel is tilted to the right. If I let go of the wheel the car begins to move to the right. If I'm going down a straight road and I attempt to straighten out the steering wheel, which has tilted to the right, I end up going to the left

Lo and behold.....Straight up bullshit.

FYI - there ARE front camber shims made for the 2009-14 sedans. They are made by SPC, Model numbers 71930 thru 71935 for different correction amounts
