I have a 2009 Genisis 4.6. The check engine light is on, took it to get a tune-up and they said they think its either the camshaft sensor or crankshaft. Whats the differents and how serious is it? I just purchase it from an auto auction.

By crankshaft do you mean the position sensor?

Either one is probably a $300 job. If you mean the crankshaft itself, big job, very expensive
If it is the crankshaft sensor I'd not drive it
The Camshaft sensor determines which cylinder is firing to establish injector synchronization and coil firing sequence in DIS systems. Crankshaft sensors set ignition timing, supply the RPM signal, and determine engine speed.

The diagnosis you received wasn’t very specific but, if the engine runs and delivers power, there’s a good chance it’s not something catastrophic. Any reputable repair facility will offer a much more specific description of the suspected problem along with a scope and estimated cost of repair. If you didn’t receive that, consider taking the car elsewhere for diagnosis and repair.
 
I've been through crank sensor replacements on 5 different vehicles now, not once has it ever triggered a check engine light Hard or no start when engine is warm, yes. Let it cool down for 45 minutes or so and it'll start again. Those are telltale signs of a dying crank position sensor. Now, as for the shop who "diagnosed" your car, ya, I'd find somewhere else to go. All they have to do is plug in an OBD II scan tool and the read the actual code (P1342, P0340 etc). It'll basically tell the shop what the problem actually is without them guessing and wasting your time and possibly money by throwing parts at the car that don't need replacing.

So I went and I got a diagnostic and the codes P0019 . so what has to be done to fix it and what actually does that code mean?

obd ll scan read P0019. so what does that actually mean and what does it take to fix it
