  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How difficult is it to replace a sunroof on a 2021 G80. I have a minor creak that they can’t fix. They have tried to fix it 3 different ways. No luck. They got Genesis corporate to agree to put in a new sunroof. It is on backorder until later in Oct. Am I asking for trouble ? Who is confident that they can do this well ?

Replacing a sunroof is a major repair on any car. A good service technician should be able to perform the job without damaging any other interior parts of the car. There is always a chance that the new sunroof may not eliminate the problem or could create another problem. You have to ask yourself if you can live with that creak now or should it get worse. If you are like me creaks and rattles drive me up a wall.

If there is another Genesis dealership close by I would take it there just to see what their service techs come up with. I would also call around to various other Genesis dealerships service departments to see if they have ran into this issue and how and if they were able to get it resolved.

I am seeing more and more of this issue being reported by owners of other brands. This could be a stress creak that might be corrected by lightly applying pressure on the area the creak is coming from.

The only way anyone can tell you if your service department is confident in performing the repair well, are other owners who have had a major repair of this sort performed on their car. If you have a good service manger speak with him or her and voice your concern and anxiety over this repair. A good service manger will put the best tech on the job and do everything in their power to see that everything works out to your complete satisfaction.

Good Luck and I hope your next post will be sunroof replaced, creak gone and I am happy.

As I noted earlier in another post, "For what it's worth, approximately 1 year ago I went through the exact same thing "They said they did the 4 or 5 things that Genesis recommends to fix the problem with no success." I have a 2018 Genesis G80 Ultimate HTRAC . Under warranty they replaced the sunroof at 20,000 miles and so far, now at 28,000 miles all is well and during the Summer I open and close it quite often." Trust me I had the same reservations you do and replacing the sunroof is a big job. I was extremely direct and forthright with the service manager as to my expectations i.e., no grease stains on the headliner, no scratched paint, etc. and so far so good. PS at first I did try to ignore the creak but it finally got to me.

Thanks for sharing your experience. While trying to fix the sunroof unsuccessfully , they have already caused a pull in the material of the sunroof shade. I assume the shade is a part of the whole sunroof assembly. I will have that direct talk with the service manager.

Ask them to replace it while working on the new roof. Doing so should be relatively easy while the roof is off.

That goes without saying. They said they will fix the sunroof screen. As a matter of fact a new sunroof screen is part of the new sunroof part kit that Genesis ships. I’m still debating if I go through with the whole roof replacement.

Kind of a daunting situation. The roof is part of the car structure so getting it wrong... I'd check in with the service advisor and find out how many they've done. The 2015-2016 models were particularly prone to needing replacement.
