  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can someone tell me if these codes mean I need to change the catalytic converter?

So there's this 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 has about 108K miles on the ODO, I want to buy but it has the following codes (get ready because its a lot):

IMPORTANT NOTE: The car has an aftermarket exhaust. I don't know if it was straight piped though it doesn't sound too loud.

NON-MIL (What does NON-MIL mean?):
P0160 Oxygen Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected Bank 2 Sensor 2
P2273 Oxygen Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0158 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0057 Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 2 Sensor 2

CONFIRMED:
P0160 Oxygen Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected Bank 2 Sensor 2
P2273 Oxygen Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0158 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0057 Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 2 Sensor 2

PENDING:
P0160 Oxygen Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected Bank 2 Sensor 2
P2273 Oxygen Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0158 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0057 Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 2 Sensor 2

PERMANENT:
P0160 Oxygen Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected Bank 2 Sensor 2
P2273 Oxygen Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0158 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0057 Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 2 Sensor 2

So same four codes but it goes from NON-MIL, to confirmed, to pending, to permanent.

Guy selling the car told me he took it to a shop said that it needed catalytic converter, I'd like to know if the codes it shows are because of it does need one, I don't wanna buy a catalytic converter and have it turn out to be something else. Yes, I do know catalytic converter are a bit expensive but buying one is within my budget and the guy said he lower the price on the car. Could it also be that the sensors are bad? Also does anyone know if the codes point out whether it's the right or left catalytic converter?

If I were to guess, I would say that Bank 2 Sensor 2 is bad, unplugged, or something like that. If the sensor was good and the converter were bad you would see a Catalytic converter efficiency error.
It could have a bad converter but you won't know it until the sensor is working.

The best I can come up with, Bank 2 is on the drivers side (in the US) of the engine. Sensor 2 will be the one after the converter. On most cars, sensor 2 is only used to check the efficiency of the converter. Sensor 1 is used to regulate the fuel mixture.

The problem in this case is the car has been to a shop that may have cleared the codes and left the sensor unplugged after checking the system. If this happened, you would get the exact codes you have listed.

In a case like this the seller would have to cut the price a LOT before I would consider buying it.

Hope this helps.

I’ll check the sensor thanks
