  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can you try to lock the drivers door with the valet key and tell me if it locks all the doors or just the drivers door? You know, they key that comes out of the key fob and you take off the little trim piece on the right side of the door handle to reveal the hidden key slot to insert aforementioned key.

I had a 2019 Sonata as a rental car a couple of months ago. When I used the valet key (the key that comes out of the key fob) to lock the drivers door it locked all the doors. That's what I expected, as every other car I've owned worked like that and so have some cars that my family members have owned.

But in my G70 only the drivers door gets locked when I use the valet key. If the other doors were unlocked they will remain unlocked even though the drivers door will be locked. I'd have to manually lock all the doors while sitting inside first and then use the valet key to lock the drivers door.

Just wondering if this is normal for all G70s or if it's just a problem with mines. Thanks so much.

I'm sorry, but wrong terminology bothers me. That's not the "valet" key. It's commonly identified by the manufacturer as the "mechanical" key. The last car that I had that was non-smart key, had regular keys and a valet key. The regular keys opened the doors, trunk, and glove box, and started the car. The valet key opened the doors and started the car, but would not open the glove box or trunk. You let the valet have that key, and you kept yours.
I can kind of understand why you are calling it the valet key, but really it is almost the opposite. If you are valeting the car, you might lock the trunk and glove box and then remove the mechanical key and keep it with you. Then you would give the valet the smart key without the mechanical key.

Check your manual. The G80 locks them all. probably same with yours. Never tried it though.
First, remove the cover (1~2), and
then turn the key toward the rear of
the vehicle to unlock and toward the
front of the vehicle to lock (3).
If you lock the driver's door with a
mechanical key, all vehicle doors will
lock. If you unlock the driver's door
with a mechanical key, the driver's
door will unlock.
Once the doors are unlocked, they
may be opened by pulling the door
handle.

From what I remember: the fob is the actual valet key, and the mechanical key is for you to keep. This is because only the mechanical key can unlock the glove box, and that's why you keep it with you so the valet can't open your glove box.

Exactly. And the lockout switch for the fob on the trunk is in the glovebox so the valet cannot get into the trunk either.
