In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can you turn off the ESC?...YES WE CAN!!!!

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

;) All warnings are understood

By a little squirly; I meant that the back end got a little loose on take off, but everything ran fine.

Yes those were the 3 lights I had lit up.

It's a not yet broken in 4.6 w/Tech (>200 Miles).

Thanks for clearing up the fuse issue, glad to hear I guessed correctly.

Will experament some more when drier and safer to do so. No one has ever called me patient when it comes proformance. And of course, I'm doing this just for the sake of knowledge :D .

Thanks for your efforts, sharing, and continued updates.

Splendid! "the back end got a little loose on take off" is the expected result :D

Although I took it easy for the first 600 miles (trust me that was very hard coming from a TrasAM weekend car ;)), mine opened up beautifully around 1200 miles..

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

Sorry...it is ESP.

and guess what...after reinstalling the fuse...36 hours later the CHECK ENGINE light went OFF!

So...expect the check engine light to engage when doing this and basically it is warning you that something is not working correctly. Give it some time and it will go back off.

When I am talking squirrley strips...I mean POWER BRAKING for about 2-3 seconds and then releasing the brake.

I took a few videos but I want to do better. For some reason I cannot get the rear end to LOCK in order to do a donut but I will keep at it.

ENJOY!

Its got to me awfully fun trying though :D

Here is the first of many videos!

This one is not great, by any means, but it does show you that the ESC has been turned completely off.

Keep in mind...your speedometer will not work, you clock may need reset, and the check engine light may illuminate while the fuse is out.

The video should be in HD before the day is over...it takes youtube.com a while to load it in HD.

ENJOY!

What fun!! Does it give you and kind of chirp going in to second gear? Can't wait for the other videos!

Simply awesome...I'm gonna have to try it and soon.
Thanks soo much for sharing

Well...it sure sounded like it did...HA:D

I dont believe it will though. The car is simply too heavy for that but I'm sure if you installed a shift kit it would!

These dad blame Dunlops are just too sticky. Maybe I need to go to the tire store and buy some used 18's and spare rims just so I can play a little!:p

KUDOS---to the first one who can show RHYS MILLEN how to drift the sedan...VIDEO PROOF ONLY! Will you beat me to it?? HA!

Check out his try

PINGGOLF,

"These dad blame Dunlops are just too sticky."

Hey, not to worry! A few more "tests" and either a) They won't be, or b) you'll have different tires anyway!

Of course you wouldn't possibly complain about the lousy milage you got out of them, will you?? :D

Here is a great reason to have the ESC disabled. I hit the gas around the right turn and the ESC kicked in at less than half throttle (before I floored it:D)

Around the left turn I couldn't get loose at all!!!!!!!! This is just dumb:mad:

BTW, the tire squeal is ABS kicking in hard before the left turn. The HD version was available for a number of days, but I noticed there is no option to chose the HD version now. What the crap??? It looked great full screen in HD.

Don't forget you 4.6 owners out there, that even after you disable the ESC you still have a Limited Slip Differential that will try to prevent wheelspin when cornering. Has anybody tried the ESC disable on a V6 yet?

You are correct!

Now...if we can just find and aftermarket kit to fix this! :)

To be honest, I was a little surprised that the rear end did not lock up as much as I thought it would.

It will off the line, and powerbraking, and occasionally in mid-turn.

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

I have also wanted to know how to turn of the ESC, I can be dangerious! I pull into traffic each day and don't always have a long break. If I give a little to much gas, well you know what happens, ((((( BRAKES ))))) wrong time. I have white/tan 2009 4.6

So in the interest of saftey, have you are any one else come up with off?
My Cadi and Vette had an off, worked great.

Thanks Pearl4.6

I see nobody has touched this in a while. While cool to see what our cars can really do, this mod isn't practical for most who wish to keep their speedometer, etc. Has there been any further work to try and solely disable the ESC?

I ended up in a ditch when I fully turned off traction AND Active Handling on my Vette.
I think "competitive driving mode" is perfect for spirited driving.

I personally think that ESC saves lives, especially those who are not familiar with sporty driving.
But I do agree that intrusive ESC can get annoying and somewhat disadvantageous in certain conditions.

Disabling the ESC fully without any warning/mafunction lights would be awesome.

Agreed. They should limit the ESC and traction control so it doesn't kill the engine so much at low speeds, where a spinout accident is less likely than getting hit by a car you just pulled out in front of.

By the way, you soon learn that you can go much faster by carefully applying power...especially when starting out and turning. Once the ESC kicks in you are done so the trick is to drive just at the edge of when it does.

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

WORKING ON IT!!!

Just got an inside number from the THINK TANK and talked to a lady who will be hooking me up with engineering within the next 5-7 days. Ill keep you posted!!!!

They said they have had TONS of calls about this!!!!

hey PING, what is the update on this?

KUDOS TO MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHOM HAVE RESEARCHED AND PAVED THE WAY TO THIS MIRACLE!!

I tried pulling "the fuse" for todays commute with AMAZING results. I wish I could "yelp" all my car experiences! With the borla cat-back system the car drives like a beast and pulls like a bull. With the (magic) fuze pulled in WOT acceleration I chirp and side step into 2nd. From stading start the car burns both tires 30'-ish Car pulls much stronger than before. 1-4 gear pulls so hard its overwhelming (like c-5 Corvette) into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th it just keeps pulling like it was in first. The down side is that it disables GPS tracking on NAV, speedo, and isnt convienent to activate; But on the upside, additional digits don't get logged to the odometer!!

I am thinking about putting together an install kit with a mini toggle placed in the lockable glove-box that will open the circuit at a flip of the switch and keep the option away from "other" family members and pesky vallet's. No cut wires yada yada PRETTY MUCH PLUG-AND-PLAY and invisible. my one-off project should cost about 50.00 USD prolly less if I can get a few friends on board, anybody interested?
